What diet changes should you make with Lyme Disease.

Are there things that can make the inflamation worse. I am in so much pain today. I might be tempted to give up my diet coke....

I would definitely leave out any white foods:

potatoes
bread
rice
breaded items

The nightshades affect pain in some people. So avoid potatoes, sweet potatoes, peanuts, tomatoes....and more.

The aspartame is REALLY bad for you...especially if you are having neuro symptoms. It affects the brain in a very negative way.

So skip the diet stuff!

ditto to what tutu said - except I am fine w/white bread and brown rice. But potatoes and tomatoes and eggplant are no good. I would also avoid coffee and artificial sweeteners and anything with tons of sugar in it. I've been eating a very bland diet as my stomach has been queasy - toast, chicken soup, plain pasta w/butter, chicken, turkey sandwiches...and lots of water!

I hope you feel better soon.

I am very addicted to my diet coke. I need to find a way to wean myself. Its like my safty blanket. If I get nervous or upset. I can down a six pack (diet coke)

Years ago I was addicted to it, too. Once I was in a quiet place and had a can of diet Coke. I sat there and listened to the Coke reacting inside the can ... it was so loud and sounded so bad that I couldn't imagine what it was doing to my body! I quit drinking it right then and there.

If you're drinking caffeine, you might want to gradually give it up, but get it from another source, even coffee is better than diet Coke.

If you Google apartame, I'm sure you'll find lots of reasons to stop drinking the diet soda. Your body has enough to detox without the added burden of soft drinks!

Now I drink purified water or detox tea. I also allow myself a decaf, organic latte every day.

I agree that it's best to give up the white foods, and the nightshades if you have joint pain. I even use brown rice pasta (Tinkyada) to avoid the white flour ... but I cannot eat gluten either.

Also, no sugar or alcohol especially if you're on antibiotics. Eat lots of veggies.

Colas and coffee will acidify your system...especially the cola! It's much easier to fight this bug when you have a slightly alkaline body.

If you're herxing, the acidity will contribute to feeling bad as well.

If you need sweet try stevia. you could make soda with stevia and flavoring ...... i would not use coke because of the caffeine

Try Teeccino, (google it) you will find it in natural groceries or you can order it. It is a hot brewed drink. I love vanilla nut with a little stevia and almond milk. This stuff is really good!!!!!!!! Not just "sorta good "for those who have to have healthy stuff.

Try it.........
I am not affiliated just LOVE the stuff!!!!!

If you like tea, you can buy some stevia and sweeten the tea with it. They have new stevia now that comes in liquid form and is flavored!

I have the vanilla flavored, and it is awesome!

You could also drink green tea, which is good for you.

==============

If your diet includes white foods, you will eventually have a yeast problem. Be careful!

Yes, Lymetoo, I LOVE the vanilla-flavored Stevia in tea, too!

I was able to buy a very small sample assortment of flavored stevia and discovered that the 'Lemon Drop' makes a sort of lemon soda when you put a few DROPS in a big bottle of seltzer.

I haven't had any soda, pop, or fizzies (depending on where you're from!)for years and don't miss the toxic stuff! [Razz]

I agree with this, I was just thinking that if it was too hard to get off both the soda and the caffeine at the same time, then the coffee was the lesser of the two evils.

I am pretty much doing a yeast free diet which seems to be a good Lyme diet too - protein and veggies.

I do have a couple of downfalls like half a teaspoon of honey a day in my a.m. tea. I stay away from refined sugar, most carbs and most sugary fresh fruit. It seems if I eat a white spud I can get away with it. If I make a potato and eat it right before sleeping I sleep better because it is almost like eating turkey as far as making one sleepy. I know spuds are not suppose to be good for you but it mellows me out.

Fresh ginger tea is good for inflammation. Try some or some ginger in caps and see if it helps.

I also eat lots of fresh garlic.

If you are going to only avoid one new thing avoid sugar and commercial fake sugar.

Perhaps you could get hooked on iced green tea instead of soda- you can buy it in bottles.

Drinking soda depletes your bone mass even carbonated water is bad for you. Soda can bring out herpes if you have that ailment.

I am no saint but I do try to stay away from the following:

sugar & artificial sweetners
caffine-specially coffee
alcohol
high carb foods-complex carbs are better-No more wonder bread!
vinager-I subsitute with lemon juice
sodas
junk food
Most prepared foods-boxed & canned ect..
no breads with yeast or baked goods that contain yeast
mushrooms

Not by choice, but by huge increases in pain and depression I have to stick with a veggie and protein diet.

NO****************

sugar
bread
fermented foods
vinegar
alcohol
rice
soy
potatoes
sweet potatoes
fruit

thats right even the fruit has too much sugar

When I eat sugar, even in a bannana I feel as if someone cut open the bottoms of my feet with a knife. VERY PAINFULL

Perhaps the easiest general plan would be to try to follow a "Mediterranean diet".

Books (cookbooks) can likely be found at your library.

We NEED some glycogen..our brain cells and our WBCs for starters.

BUT...we need to avoid the insulin spikes that sugar (glycogen) causes. Complex carbs do NOT cause the spikes.

If you avoid tomatoes and white potatoes, you will be losing significant sources of vitamin C.

I think that is a big mistake...big.

Ok, I hurt from head to toe. (I sleep eat). My husband even asked me yesterday why I was so grochy all the time lately. I told him I was just tired and I hurt all over.

Now you guys want me to give up the evil Little Debbie and my Diet Coke...... [bow] What else is there to live for; lol...

I have a decaf organic latte every day. I know that coffee isn't necessarily good for you (though even this is debated), but I think that two shots of espresso is a pretty small "evil"!!! Especially since the only other "bad" thing in my diet is the occassional splurge on popcorn.

The key is to find another comfort food/drink.

A low animal fat diet will kill you!

The immune system and body organs need fuel...
That fuel is natural animal fats...

Avoid man made fats (vegetable cooking oils) and man made sweetners and high frutose corn syrup (soft drinks and fruit juices).

Coconut virgin cooking oil is best for immune system.. Bacon grease is good also.

Drink: water, regular cow milk, tea (beware of herbals), and coffee (not decaffe,, has dangerous chemicals)

The current cholesterol theory is a lie concocted by drug companies to sell statin drugs (poison).

World cholesterol average in humans is 240. Cholesterol is a fuel for the immune system and brain. Plus it is the building material of the body cells...

Low cholesterol is high risk for cancer and brain malfunctions and muscle damage...

The yeast-free diet works best for me.

At least I only have to go to the produce section (fruits excepted, possibly), and the meat section when I am in the grocery store. No time wasted browsing around the other aisles being overwhelmed by 'choices' [Smile] [Frown] .
