Ever since I started treatment for lyme I have had NO appetite to speak of. My first set of ABX I basically had to forcefeed myself, it was awful. My second round isn't so bad but I never have any hunger pangs, my stomach is never quite right. I never feel like eating.

is there any way to fix this? I keep hoping one day I'll wake up and it'll be normal, but it's going on a month now and no change....

Thanks!

I had to get antidepressants to fix that problem.....many years ago. Didn't know I had lyme. Worked in a matter of days.

Also consider babesia. It can cause a loss of appetite.

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:
Fatigue*
Arthralgias*
Myalgia*
Drenching sweats*
Headaches*
Emotional lability*
Depression*
Dark urine*
Splenomegaly*
Dizziness*
Nausea and vomiting*
Cough*
Dyspnea*
Fever*
Chills*
Hepatosplenomegaly*
Jaundice*
Malaise*
Shortness of breath*
Bleeding tendencies,
bruising*
Thrombocytopenia*
Hemoglobinuria*
Hyperesthesia*
Pulmonary edema*
Encephalopathy*
Low to normal range leukocyte counts*
Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase, bilirubin,
transaminase*
Anorexia*
Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease, then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection.
An acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially. There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO species are currently checked by commercial labs.

[confused] Problem...hah. I have gained 50 pounds due to steriods and inactivity the last 7 months. Most of it came on in two months.

So tell me the exact treatment so I can lose my appetite. I am thinking about twinkies just looking at your name. [bonk]

One of my most hated symptoms has been my lack of appetite. I have babesia.

In the beginning I was tested for celiac because of all the digestive problems and weight loss. I tested negative for celiac, but feel and look much healthier since giving up gluten.

My appetite has not returned, but I'm maintaining my weight and have no digestive problems anymore.

I never feel hungry, but often feel better after I eat.

yourtroubl, lack of appetite and weight loss is certainly looked at as more desirable than weight gain! Both are unhealthy though. It makes me hate that part of Hollywood!

yep me too. Haven't had an appetite since my last relaspe 4 years ago. It is a constant struggle to keep my weight up.

I do empathize with you [group hug] It does stink

I had an appetite before I treated my lyme w/the biaxin - then everything went downhill. My stomach went into upheaval with awful reflux that I'm still battling. I was dry heaving and everything, not fun. I believe it's from the abx and just taking a long time to heal. Hopefully I'm right!

I will ask my dr this week about coinfections as I haven't been tested for any. I don't have many of the other babesia symptoms though...headache (feeling like a crab on my head), neck pain/stiffness, tingling and numbness in hands sometimes, and leg pain and fatigue are my main complaints [Frown]

My LLMD has me taking Prolisec every day for reflux. My Biaxin is not bothering me ... except for the taste.
