I have may have made a massive blunder. My stomach is so torn up with GERD that I simply cannot take oral antibiotics anymore. Heretofore I have herxed and backed off and the stomach has gotten better but not this time.
My theory was the one thing that I thought really did in the Bb was penicillin and since I could not take the oral stuff I finally decided to bite the bullet and get IM bicillin. Yesterday I had two syringes injected, 2.4 million units with a 22 gauge needle (that is a big needle, I was told it would not hurt as much) and it has nearly killed me. The shots hurt worse than any shot I have ever had in my life. Further my gluteous maximus (the largest muscle, if you will) is in screaming agony. I cannot get up and down or in and out of my car without pain. I have great pain even putting my wallet in my back pocket.
In addition to that pain the pain in my kneess has been acting up with pain in my teeth of all places. So I have a sore backside, sore knees and sore teeth to boot. In addition the fever is getting worse than ever. I am now up to 99.1. Not much you may say but that is higher than it has ever been, I feel like I am burning up and my normal temperature is 97.3. so in real terms my temp is what a normal persons would read 100.4.
To add to all the misery, and I feel pretty sick, I have had itching in my chest on top of the usual peripheral neuropathy and a reddish rash sploch has broken out at the top part of my chest just below my neck. All these other members to the contrary bicillin shots are a living hell. And this in a little more than 24 hours after the shots.
So now I do not know what to do. I am very afraid of an anaphalactic reaction, which can even be fatal. Further I can now longer take any antibiotics it seems. And all the rest of this stuff is just so much fluff and hot air. This one says it works and that one says they tried it and it does nothing. I ususally try to not get depressed but right now things are glum.
I would go back to feeding Boris and Myrtle sherry to try to shut them up but due to my friend GERD that is just not possible. Ideas anyone??? Cheers?????? Thomas the Mouldy One Parkman

Thomas since I'm allergic to penicllin my self I have no first hand experience with the bicillin.
that, said, I am so sorry you are having a go of it!
As I read your post my 2 thoughts were benedryl and an epsom salts bath.
As I type I guess I could add lemon water or other detoxifying fluids like lots of water.
of course please check with your LLMD if things get too serious.
I hope you can get some rest tonight and feel better by morning!

Thomas, Is the rash spreading? Are you breathing alright? Do you have any Benedryl in the house? Please keep a phone with you in case this is an allergic reaction. Are you near a hospital?
Do you have an anaphalixis kit? I know I was given one when starting bicillin.
I'd take the Benedryl.
blah, blah, blah, not a doctor but want to make sure you're ok, ok?
Ok, having said that... What you described is exactly what IM Bicillin is like. It hurts like a *****. The dose you have gotten, if this is your first, is large to my mind.
My first run on bicillin I was given 300,000 IU to start and ramped up by 300,000 a week to 1.2 million IU/week. Others have done way more.
I could never handle more than one shot a week it took 2 weeks for the... um... side it was on to heal enough to shoot again. I did try.
I found that my herxes were predominantly headaches, fever and wanting to sleep lots. (Not counting not being able to touch the site as part of the herx.) It peaked somewhere in the beginning of the week and was fine by the end of the week.
I was on bicillin a year into treatment with low dose zithro and I made my best improvement on it. I have no idea if I could ever do it again.
I hope you're not having an allergic reaction and can possibly do this at a lower dose with a tiny needle and lidocaine. They tell me it can be done that way these days instead of the knitting needle in the butt.
How are you doing now?

Hi, I was allergic to bicillin inj. The prescript was for 1.2 instead your 2.4 and only once each week. I would wheeze and get short of breath. I've been in anaphylactic reaction and it is scary.
When this happened I didn't tell Dr. cause I was afraid he'd take me off it. So, first thing I did was go to walmart and get primatine mist inhaler (it has small amt. epinephrine in it).
Then I decreased my inj to half the tubex. Put rest in fridge for next time. Only took once each week, same day. Early enough in day so, I didn't have to worry about reaction while slept.
I always got the primatine inhaler out before the inj and took 2 puffs when wheezes and short of breath started. Eventually, reaction went away. I dont have to use it now, but I still get it out and keep in reach just in case.
However, you know what you can tolerate and if you sense doom or feel you can't tolerate, then need to talk to dr. Also, if short of breath and wheeze notify dr.
I don't advise anyone to do what I do. I tend to be dare devil and will experiment with out a thought to my safety until after the fact when it is too late.
I just tired of being sick and don't think before jumping.
Hope you conquer this issue and feel well.

yikes spooky! That's really scary!
Thomas Parkman, How are you doing? check in as soon as you can ok? Worried about you! Posted by dontlikeliver (Member # 4749) on :
First, perhaps take some Benadryl and see if the rash goes. If it doesn't, perhaps it is not an allergic rash then.
But, I'd also call your doctor and ask what to do.

Well, Dear Members,
The walking wounded here. The site of the wound and the general area is as sore as a boil. I do not think I can take much more of this. I confess that where needles and whatnot are concerned I am a lily livered coward with no more courage than a rabbit. I am having considerable difficulty walking.
On top of all that I was talking to my pharamacist and he told me the blasted bicillin was 61 Dollars a syringe. I had to buy twenty of the damned things. I now have almost 2300 dollars sitting in my refrigerator that I cant use. No wonder the insurance cos are having duck fits and giving us the royal run around. The drug companies are engaged in high way robbery on a continental scale and nobody is doing anything about it. Talk about crooks. I guess it cost them maybe 50 cents to make the syringes, the needles and the contents of all of the above. Lovely. No wonder it hurts for me to pull out my wallet. In any case, fare well.
You can just call me like I feel, ie Forty Hells. cheers. I'll never tall.
