I was just checking this out online and I didn't see that he recommended any probiotics (like Culturelle, etc.) other than acidophilus and a full container of plain sugar-free yogurt per day, plus the tongue brushing of course.

Should I just buy acidophilus tablets to take along w/the yogurt to prevent yeast, OR should I try Culturelle? I have a very sensitive stomach and read that some people have stomach issues when starting the probiotics.

Any thoughts would be great, thanks1

The best probiotic out there is homemade Kefir. Very easy to make. You have to get grains. Go here to learn about kefir.

http://users.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html

Really is the best and cheapest way to keep the good bacteria in your system. Way better than store bought yogurt.

As far as store bought probiotics I like Theralac and also Acidophilus Pearls by Enzymadica.

Just my opinion,

Be careful when taking kefir.

Kefir is made from yeast, and when I took it, I had severe asthma and breathing problems, I thought it was a healing crisis from candida

dieoff so kept at it and near died from the allergic reaction to the yeast in that

particular kefir. It was the sacromecies cervasie.

I have an allergy to this kind of yeast.

I then tried another kind of kefir, it had a different starter made from a different yeast and was ok with it. I am ok with the

sacromecies, boulardi that is in the Florastor.

Be very careful. with kefir if you have an allergy to yeast.

Threelac also has yeast in it. I went through hell with products, reacting to them, until I went to a ND and found out what I was sensitive to.

My favorite Probiotics are PB8 and Sedona iFlora. I always do test cultures to see how good Probiotics are, and these two do really well.

If your tummy is sensitive, make sure to avoid probiotics with FOS in them, as it can be hard to digest.

Dr B does recommend that you take probiotics and hrs away from the antibiotics.

My new LLMD recommends UltraFlora and Therelac and to take 45 billion organisms daily.

It depends how sensitive you stomach is (any changes in the gut bacterial balance can cause initial dia.), but it should adjust over time.

p.s. taking probiotics last thing at night (& always with cold water) is good if you can tolerate it

Have you tested theralac? That seems to be the flagship probiotic on this board.

I have found the pro-biotics aphodophollis pearls at vitacost to be effective. They are supposed to survivie stomach acid & deliver into the intestines where they are needed the most. I also like theralac. If you are on abx yogurt isn't enough to replace the good flora back that is killed off durning treatment.

Please run these by your doc first as everyones is so different as to what they can tolerate

Kefir is fine, and he said it was fine to take it. You should always pace antibiotics and probiotics away from each other. Also, when on antibiotics, you should be on Florastor to prevent c.difficile infection, it is a beneficial yeast.
Culturelle is dead stuff, i tried to make yogurt with it and it doesnt grow. I aske dmy Gi about this and he agreed to stick to something like VSL # 3, HMF replete, florastor, theralac and ultraflors. PB 8 is junk too.

I LOVE Theralac!! I took PB8 for years, only to continue battling the candida. The Theralac has taken care of the candida wonderfully!

I'll have to buy some Theralac.

Where's the cheapest place to get this at?

Yep! theralac is good stuff, as is VSL # 3. PB-8 is often kept at room temperature in stores. Mine came out of the fridge and when I tried to make yogurt out of it, it was dead bacteria. I've spoken to a few other yogurt making buds of mine who had no luck with PB-8 either.
VSl yogurt is delicious! [Smile]
