fyi, i've learned more in the last 24 hours that my head is still swirling!

since i'm having left hip replacement surgery march 5, 2007 in mercy hospital, des moines, iowa, i've been working on updating ALL LEGAL papers!

* durable power of attorney for HEALTH CARE decisions;

* both of our wills;

* durable pwoer of attorney for FINANCIAL decisions;

* updating our record book of all important papers and where they are located, our funeral plans eventually;

* updating our photo collection and typed list of family HEIRLOOMS that we want this relative to have, etc. learned one thing in the will, it says we must sign and date our list of items for relatives; previous lawyer never mentioned this! BIG UFFDA; meaning....oh my GOODNESS! big project!!

anyway, we met with my lawyer nephew for 1st time ever since he started 2 years ago.

if we have any funds left after our extensive health problems and any future nursing home care, i want my share of our money to go to:

LDA for education and CHRONIC LYME RESEARCH CENTER at columbia university plus a few local charity organizations.

UPDATED 2-25-07:
LDA PRES. pat smith emailed me saying checks for the lyme research center can be sent to LDA headquarters EARMARKED FOR LYME RESEARCH CENTER, and they will get the money there !

nephew brought up, had i talked personally or by email to each of these orgs? NO! you should as EACY ORG HAS THEIR OWN "WORDAGE" ON RECEIVING $$ so the money you send them is for what YOU WANT IT TO BE!"

so i was able to make contact my email or phone call to all by one today.

i want to give money to our local public library for LYME DISEASE MATERIALS: BOOKS, VIDEOS, etc. and to their music CD collection: country and 40s - 60s music that i so enjoy as i'm on internet/this board!

NO, they did not like my stipulation toward lyme disease only and this money to be divided up in 10 years to buy these resources.

IF it ends up to be a large amount of money; not likely; they do NOT have an ACCOUNTANT to keep track of the money that it is used as I WISH IT TO BE.

they could NOT GUARANTEE it; he was going to call my nephew and visit w/his uneasiness.

i told them both that if the funds were NOT used as I REQUESTED; "I'D COME BACK AND HAUNT THEM BOTH!" they laughed, and assured me; they did not want that. wished me the best on my surgery and they'd rather see me there visiting as normal than dealing with this legal paperwork!

sorry, i'm not adopting anyone! [Big Grin] hard enough with my 2 grown step-kids and their poor choices of spouses!

i also gave my 2nd unit of blood today for my 3-5 surgery! i'm weak tonight but emotionally/physicallys from dealing with all the legal mumbo jumbo! [Roll Eyes]

update 2-26-07

LDA pres. pat smith informed me today that if we want to set up any special funds, they should go LDA and earmarked for special fund.

since my library and 1 other org fell [Wink] through, i gave it so more thought and thought of another fund i want to see available while the money is there! "aid for needy adults "!! [Wink]

there's a kids fund for this purpose, but not an adults! [Frown]

that is very nice of you Betty,and if your haveing hip surgery,DO NOT,let them give you steriod shots during or after the operation.

I dont understand the Columbia thing,if they have the doctors,why dont they start treating lyme patients,and make the rest of the money to open the new lyme center.Most MD's operate out of small offices.Im sure they could make some space and start treating lyme patients.Im very leary to the thought of all the money they have recieved,and are not treating patients.
And there studys on spect scans even states on there website,that spect scans can NOT be used in diagnoseing lyme.

brian, you can go to the LDA website to read about columbia university opening the 1ST CHRONIC LYME RESEARCH CENER internationally! they are still $100,000 short of money needed to open.

while there, look for pat smith's email, and email her your 2 questions/comments as i have no knowledge of them ok. [Wink]
