Well I have a bad week. I started IV doxy 2 weeks ago. 200 mg every 12 hours. With in 2 days I was having joint pain, headaces, dizzyness, chest pain, ect. I called the LLMD, they said it was a herx reaction, and if I could try to keep going on the meds and that it was a good thing as it means it working.

As the days went on I keep getting worse. I was now in bed all the time. When my rn came to the house for my weelky dressing change and blood draw.... well she could not get blood return, and my viens are shot so I had to go into the infusion center for TPA. It took two rounds of TPA. finally the TPA got the clot.

While I was there my LLMD's RN called on my cell, so I, and my nurse where able to express our concern. So the lowered the dose to 100 mg every 12 hours. The bad thing is I am still feeling bad. Then to top if off I starting getting a really bad pain on my left side, and the chest pain is getting worse.

My appointment on friday was cancelled due to the weather here in Iowa. So I am going in on monday. Has anyone else had chesy pain on doxy, or while being treated for lyme's, I am worried as I have heart problems, I had a pacemaker place 2 years ago.My LLMD things all my heart problems where caused by the lymes. But I am not sure now if it's the meds causing the problem, or it's somthing else.

At the lower does of doxy is it still going to fight the lymes... will it take longer at the lower dose?

Hi Hope--

I have not done IV doxi but I have taken
around 5000 100mg capsules over the
last 3 yrs-- so I am fairly fimular
the the effects--Good and Bad--

Your doctor is correct about the Herx reaction-
You are going to get sicker before you get better--

Herxes are painful and No fun at all
but they are a Good thing-

Its the No Pain No Gain type of situation--

Orial doxi dose little Good at a Low dose
Most folks have good results taking
around 600mg spread threw the day--
Depends somewhat on your body weight--

Have you taken other meds before?

Why did your doc put you on IV instead
of oral doses?

A couple of thing that I have learned
about doxi is Not to eat any type of
Citrus or cranberries while taking doxi--

It causes the Photo Toxic reaction
to be Much worse--
Even Tiny amounts of citrus can
cause this bad reaction--

It can happen Quickly--Hours--
so make Sure to keep this in mind--

Also vitimins -minerals and Dairy
can lower the effect of Doxi to
perty much zero if taken close
to the time that the doxi is taken--

Taking IV doxi May not have this
Lowering effect --
But you should keep it in mind--

Doxi Helped me Alot--
the Good effects did lower after taking
doxi for about 18 months tho --

But when I quit taking Doxi my eye floater
problems return after about 3 weeks
so I still take about 200mg aday of doxi
along with my other ABX--

This lower dose dose keep the floaters away-

Hope this helps You --Jay--

Jay-

Thanks for all the info. I already had a PICC line when I went to the LLMD, as I am on IV fliuds to help keep mu b/p up, (long story, after meds did not work, we had to go to the fliuds.) So since I already had a picc and I have many stomach problems, the LLMD said it would the best option to do IV. I was on doxy oral the 5 month before, and I was always in the bathroom if you know what I mean.

I am hoping that they will be able to go back up with the doesage hopfully, once the side effect/ herxing slows done. The LLMD belieives I have had the lymes for over 10 years, and am In the "late stage" of lymes so I am hoping that the abx will work. As I been so sick over the past years. This last year I been unable to work. I am hoping to get my life back!
