meeting with the dr. that does hbot in my town for the pre-hbot consult
any advice on questions to ask?
i have been following others experiences so i know about the eye thing, metals, and will/have addressed these
have been wondering, would a couple of dives beforehand ,that are are not so deep as the kind required for Lyme, be a good idea, to prep my body perhaps (kind of like starting on a low dose of meds?)
and btw now seem to be reacting to abx asap with abdominal pain, i do think it could be the multidrug immune system problem (see recent thread), or htese jsut plain old now hurt my GI tract now, so i may be doing hbot w/out abx, unitl i get the abx problem figured out
thoughts?
thanx all

Hi Jif,
I'm sure the others will be around shortly to chime in as well : )
When you meet with your doctor ask him what pressure does he offer?
2.4 ATA ( atmosheres absolute) is what the standard is based on the protocol developed by Dr William Fife. You can either google it or em me privately and I will send you the research.
Ask how long the technicians have been working there?
And how many lyme patients have they treated?
I would suggest that you speak with others that have experienced the hyperbaric therapy.
Make sure that you do not go into the chamber if you have active sinus congestion or can not clear your ears! Use ear planes if you do...
I would also suggest, based on Dr Glen Burklands study, that you continue with antibiotics during your HBOT sessions. Even low dose would be effective...
As to your abdominal pains I would suggest that you consume abundant amounts of probiotics, Take your meds with food when permisable.
And if you can substitute or compliment a medication with an essential oil or herb that would be less toxic then try that as well...
Last but not least make sure that you have targeted co infections, any heavy metals and high viral loads.
Feel free to contact me at any time during your sessions with any questions.
Blessings,

Hi there--are you going to Dr. Stoller's? If so, he has a mild chamber and a deep dive chamber.
It might indeed be wise to start with a shallow dive and see how you do. A deep dive might cause a good herx .
I didn't do abx while diving--I do agree if you are doing abx, diving, you should also take an antifungal if you can, to prevent yeast (which are facultative anaerobes--they don't mind the oxygen and are stimulated by the abx).
The idea, since you have this available right in town, is do to enough dives to really get feeling a lot better, and then KEEP ON A MAINTENANCE schedule. Probably he has two sets of dives daily--one at lower pressure, one at higher pressure. I could be wrong but I really think for maintenance, either one is okay.
Just don't use it, start feeling a lot better, and stop it entirely. It will be needed to keep Bb in check. You will find your own maintenance level with trial and error.
The doc who I did hbo with in Great Barrington actually moved to Santa Fe (not practicing hyperbaric medicine any longer). She found the patients who did best did 3-6 months, and then one of them did twice a week for 45 minutes for another year. That one didnt do abx. The others did. i only did 2 months at her clinic and it wasn't enough for longterm lasting benefit. So I have my own mild chamber.
I believe there are at least 3-4 docs with mild chambers in town as well.

Jif~ The only reason to try a shallow dive first would be to just get used to the whole experience. I remember feeling quite overwhelmed by the whole experience, and wondering if I could make it the entire 2 hours. A shorter dive might be good just to get adjusted to the whole scenario.
I just finished 2 more dives. It will be interesting to see if I get another herx. I did after the last 2 sets of 2 dives.
Keep us posted!

Timaca, that is not the only reason to try a shallow dive. Some people need to build up the pressure gradually. Otherwise their herx and the change in their body can be too dramatic and overwhelming.
