Sorry for the details....I have had a lingering period now for approx 2 plus weeks! As soon as I think it is gone...here it is again. I am on a lot of abx. Could this be caused by the abx? I also have no signs of ovulation and decreased sex drive. I use to be very regular. Help, this is awful! Anyone else having this problem?

I have and have had period problems since this nightmare started.
I had light periods, spotting between periods, vulva burning, so severe I couldnt get out of bed.
Then in june 06 they just stopped.....and in February 07 started up again for no apparant reason.
I now feel great during day one and two.......horrible on day three when the flow stops a bit and my whole body just crashes, vulva burning, depression, fatigue.
I didnt have any signs of ovulation either until last month. And my cramps are gone, replaced with stinging on both sides of my legs under my hips.
Have you gone to your gyn to see what they think?

Hi NikkiB
Was very regular until I was lymed. Then came the severe cramps, almost constant bleeding, etc.. Instead of every 28 days, it was more like 17-21 days.
The first month after starting Mino, I made it to 23 days. Each month it would get better. Less pain, less frequent and not last as long.
Now, every 28 days, minimal discomfort and done in 4-5 days. Posted by twopuggles (Member # 10971) on :
I am having the same problem. When I first didn't know I had Lyme, I went to the gyn and he was going to take out my uterus. Yikes!!
Anyway, glad we didn't go there. I have spotting for several days, and then my period starts, so it lasts for like two weeks. Then it changes to just spotting in between the period. Sometimes my period is normal and other times I can't function when I have it. The cramps are horrible, and not only when I am on my period. I get them often times in between.
I also have felt a pulling on my uterus like I am pregnant, and that is not the case. I know this is all related to Lyme, and it is making things really difficult.
I heard from another lymie to try Seasonale which is a birth control where you only have your cycle four times a year. Apparently it helped stabilize the hormones during treatment of lyme's. I haven't tried it yet, but thinking about it. Good luck!!

I have spotting a couple days before it starts, then it's very heavy with clotting, then spotting for several days before it's over. The whole process is about 8 days, and I have 28 day cycles. I do get some cramping, but it improved tremendously after I went gluten-free, it used to be much worse.
Birth control pills don't regulate cycles ... they change your hormones so that you "usually" don't ovulate, if you do ovulate, then the mucus is too thick for the sperm to travel, if the second mechanism doesn't work, it makes it so the embryo cannot implant in the uterus. So, they intentionally make your body not work right.
If you go on BCP, it will stop the heavy bleeding and make you more comfortable, but it's not regulating your hormones. I, and this is my personal opinion, think my body is having a hard enough time without messing with my hormones! I'm on enough prescriptions as it is. Just my 2 cents. I had the same issues as Pocono Lyme. That was my story almost exactly.
Better now after a year and a half of extensive abx treatment.
Two weeks though is a long time. You might want to get to a doctor and get your feratin levels (iron levels) checked just in case you have lost a lot of blood and make sure this is not a cyst issue.
I hope you feel better soon and find answers too.

Oh - Puggles - I would be careful with blood clotting issues and birth control pills. Tick borne illness can make you predisposed to blood clotting disorders and so going on birth control pills might not be good for you in that regard.
Maybe you could get some tests done regarding blood clotting before going on them.

Ditto on watch your ferritin.
Some doctors don't check iron levels by watching ferritin, but only do a CBC.
Do you have babesia as well? Babesia causes hemolysis..... that combined with heavy periods.....
I had this lovely combo.

Thanks for all the input! I do have babesia as well, so hopefully this will all eventually go away with treatment. As for birth control pills, I have a blood clotting disorder called antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, so I cant take them. Watch out for this disorder. I have had it for years (as well as undiagnosed Lyme)....I have now done lots of research and found out that this is just one disorder that Lyme and Mycoplasma can turn on in our bodies. It increases chance of blood clots, stroke and miscarriages. -Nikki B
