I have episodes of Flushing, chest pain, tachycardia/irregular heart rate, Shortness of breath, sweating, and body spasms down my spine.

Feels like a full on heart attack. Have had this for 10 yrs and it went away for a few and now is back after adding doxy to my zith pulses.

Also used to have panic attacks, but this feels like heart. Could be panic as my nervous system is going haywire. I also get a warm rushing feeling down my spine when it happens and into my genitals and feet. Strange!!!

Any idea what co-infection this could be besides Borrelia.

Anyone else get this when they took doxy.

I think I have to take a break for a week or two as I have been in the ER 3x in the last month for this.

Heart angiogram and echo negative. Male, late thirties here.

Thanks!

Chris

Hang in there,

Someone will be around that should be able to help out with this one.

I had some similar problems when I took Minocycline. Chest pain, swelling and problems breathing. They took me off my meds at that time. Can't tolerate Mino.

Been along time since I was on Doxy. Had alot of numbness and tingling and problems swallowing.

I've been treated for Lyme, Mycoplasma, Babs and now Bartonella.

Do a search on this site for any of your symptoms and see what you come up with. That's what I've done before.

Hope this helps.

Never tested positive for Babs, but am sure it could be a clinical diagnosis.

What is a good test for babs? Try the meds and see if you herx.

I seemed to have started the heart herx with the doxy. Many trips to the ER with chest pain and tachycardia (bad!!!).

Heard from Cpnhelp, org this could be due to secondary Porphyria.

Interesting. They use doxy/zith and then pulsed flagy/tini for chlaymidia Pneumoniae (MS treatment).

Quinine water should make me herx with babs right?

Thanks!

Chris

I think tetracycilenes cause this I know I have had it when on all 3?
I aslo really believe in drinking at least 2 glasses of water with any 3 of them and stay upright after for at least 45 mins.

It could also be severe magnesium deficiency.

I had similar issues until I did a few IV's and began regular IM shots.

Labcorp does a RBC Magnesium count - might be worth checking into.

BABESIOSIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So this is probably babesia? Borrelia alone wouldn't cause these symptoms?

yep. probley not...

there isn't any really good test for babesia. Several species of the buggers... They really don't know all that much about them. Try a WA-1 test from sonoma county california health dept- easy to find with google. It's a cheap test. Maybe something will cross react at least.

if you do the babesia therapy I found something that might help. I couldn't tolerate artemisinin at all for quite a while- tryed it several times at a fraction of the dose and almost had heart attacks I think. Very bad.

I found I could tolerate the artemisinin very well (comparitively) after maybe 5 days to a week of being on mepron. The babesia load went down.

What happens during therapy is not exactly a herx... BUT the babesia die and the blood cells burst and there is all this extra crap in your blood. It seems to cause increased sweating, cramps and heart palpitations.

I had to take beta blockers for my heart continuously for about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks maybe. Then just as needed.

Beta blockers will make you a little loopy. So will the artemisinin. The mepron might too, but it's not bothering me much. Some doctors might have programs to help pay for the mepron. Some insurance companies will pay after the second request.

I beleive some therapies will use doxy instead of zithromax- probley not as easy a combo to tolerate but cheaper. You want to double check that info though...

Artemisinin only has a half life of 1 to 3 hours. Mepron has a half life of a couple days or more. They work synergistically. Zith is used to keep them from becoming resistant to the mepron (which otherwise can happen relatively fast).

I had the exact same symptom attacks you describe for twelve years, even though I was not on any ABX. They mostly occured at night when sleeping, or when exerting myself. Being too hot or too cold or too hungry or too overstimulated could also trigger it.

I have had two negative Babs tests, though I realize that does not mean much. I also take Mg citrate, 660-1200 mgs. daily for years, though I realize I may not be absorbing it all.

Finally a cardiac event monitor (NOT a Holter monitor; I had two of those and they are not nearly as good) put an end to the mystery. I have PSVT's, a type of tachycardia with an abnormal rhythm that in combination with Lyme panic attacks, can cause all of the symptoms you mention. If most attacks happen from sleep, it may be a clue that you also have apnea. I did, and did not know it.

Slow release Verapamil manages it for me, but most people have a procedure done called a radio frequency ablation, which fixes the problem permanently. I could not have this procedure, since it requires ABX that I am allergic to and no doc would touch me without it.

Your problem may be different than mine, but it won't hurt to try wearing a cardic event monitor, which is small and painless. Many Lymies have some type of tachycardia problem. PSVT's require treatment, since they can cause blackouts, and in rare cases, sudden death.

There are two other medical problems that can cause these symptoms as well, and they can and should be eliminated by doing 24 hour urine collection tests, and a chromagranin A blood test. They are pheochromocytoma and carcinoid syndrome.

I know how awful these attacks are...I used to be afraid to go to sleep. I hope you get some relief soon.

What kind of sweating problems does Babesiosis cause?

I used to not sweat hardly at all. Now when it is a little warm, my groin/butt will sweat through and soak my pants. So, I have to wear mesh basketball shorts in the summer.

Ask your dr for a trial run of malarone or mepron or artemisinin. That should tell the story.

I agree....babs is the most likely.
