Does anyone know what the current restrictions are for medications and air travel? I know that you are not supposed to have more than 3.4 ounces of liquids and it must be in a clear ziploc bag.
Do all meds have to be in their original prescription bottles?

PROBABLY YES. they need to know it is a valid perscription from a doctor.
you can go to faa.com and they should have a traveling list.
you should never travel even in car with prescriptions that are not in their original bottles. especially narcotics docdave

Oh poo, I thought that's what you would say.
When I travel I always take what I need out of all the bottles and put them in one, otherwise I would have to pack ANOTHER SUITCASE just for all the pharms and supplements.

I check my traincase which has all my make-up, toothpaste, etc., and I have all my meds in another traincase which I carry on and put under the seat.
When I go to my mom's I don't take any shampoo, etc., cause she usually has all those things.
Unfortunately, they pitched a 40 (yep 40 bucks) bottle of perfume I had just bought. Made me sick... but I learned....
Better to call the airlines and just ask.
The FAA will just refer you to them anyway...

I travel a lot.
Here's the scoop:
-anything is OK in checked luggage
-liquids in CARRY-ON luggage have to be in small containers under 3 oz in a zip lock baggie so that they can check it quicker.
-I'm not sure about liquids out of their original container, though.

I don't know if you are referring to liquids for IV abx (which I am on) but I asked my dr
and the nurse in his office and they both said that it would not be a problem as long as you
have a drs note with you for when you go through security at the airport.
My dr said also if I did not want to go through the hassle of getting it through security that
he would overnight the meds to the address that I traveled to. (my grown sons live out of state
so I like to fly to go see them). I don't know if all drs would be willing to do that but
that what mine said.

I had to UPS my IV rocephin/saline. And then when I got to the airport, some inspectors said it would be ok and others said no.
I took ALL my other meds in my backpack. At that time, I was on pain meds too. I didn't want any of them out of my grubby little hands.

My son's meds were in his carry-on, no problem. My supplements were checked in, no problem. Excedrin in original container in carry-on, also no problem.
You might try asking the pharmacist if they would give you smaller bottles with labels, so you could carry just enough for the trip. Dunno if they would do it, but a thought....

i'll ask my friend today the pharmacist, but i'm pretty sure anything with schedule 4 and above need original container. this includes any controlled substanced, controlled by the DEA. sleeping pills, almost all,:pain meds except NSAID ie motrin. many pills are controlled by the DEA for misuse or drug dependency and are called controlled substances: there are 4 schedules 1,2,3,4. schedule 1 is morphine,ie schedule 2 is percocet, ie. schedule 3 is i think any diazapam, tyl#3, schedule 4 is cough med with codiene.
i am very rusty on these codes and they might have changed in 7 years since i practiced. 3&4 can be called into pharmacy, 1&2 must have hand written rx from going into doctor.
that is why the doc in california is in deep s--t for sending scheduled narcotics to anna nicole. he sent it to her under a false name, never saw her. he'll be playing catch with the big boys.(pun might be intended).
now i use a weekly pack with all my meds split day and night. i have taken this with all my meds and not been stopped. so idunno
make sure you hubby gets to see you naked with the new screening machines. the machine literally takes you clothes off by some magic process so they can see your major privates or is that private majors.

I travel a lot for work. I am on IV drugs and have never had an issue getting them through nor my orals. Just get the order/prescription from your doctor and have in on hand when going through security. That should be it. If it's liquid, take it out and show them with the script. Only if they ask because I've gotten through without having to remove them from my bag or getting any questions. Either way, there should not be an issue if you have script. Thanks

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/index.shtm We recommend, but not require, that passengers bring along any supporting documentation (ID cards, letter from doctor, etc.) regarding their medication needs. We also recommend, but not require, that the label on prescription medications match the passengers boarding pass. If the name on prescription medication label does not match the name of the passenger, the passenger should expect to explain why to the security officers. To ensure a smooth screening process, passengers are encouraged to limit quantities to what is needed for the duration of the flight.
When I flew last November I carried all my medications divided into doses in plastic bags. No problems. Can't guarantee that will be fine but it was not a problem for me.
They do check CPAP machines (used for sleep apnea) everytime you are screened by taking it out of the case and scanning it with special equipment. Terry
