I think I have the flu, but I was also curious if perhaps I am herxing? I started taking Xifaxan and Alinia (both are for stomach ailments) 9 days ago, and woke up very sick 4 days ago. I have called my LLMD but haven't heard back from him. I do have all the typical flu symptoms, but was hoping I was herxing.

Isn't Alinia also being used these days as a Lyme cyst-buster?
A Lyme pal of mine was given Alinia for parasites, and then I told her it was a cyst-buster, too. She asked her Lyme practitioner and he said yes.
If that's so, you would be herxing as the cysts open up.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and having plenty of bowel movements. If you have any Candida issues both of these meds could be trying to flush out the Candida and the dieoff toxins could be building up.
Hubby could only tolerate one Xifaxin daily -- not the normal dose of 3 daily. He was recovering from a paralytic ileus and had to go slow with all meds until his G.I. peristalsis normalized.
Might also be a good idea to take some activated charcoal or bentonite clay away from meals and meds to absorb toxins.

I think Alinia could bring about some strong herx reactions if it is for parasites (which is what I have heard it is used for). Add cyst busting to that and it could be quite difficult.
Yuck... sooo no fair! Do you have something to mitigate the symptoms? Maybe an anti-flu/viral remedy or med or just something to help with the symptoms? Water sounds like a great idea.

I was on Xifaxan for C. difficile. It was THE drug that kicked that beast in me....after I had it for 11 months! (I took 200 mg 3 times a day)
It is my understanding that Xifaxan is not absorbed from the gut, meaning it stays in the gut. Thus, it would not affect lyme at all, and one would not herx from it.
I can't speak for the other drug you are on.

I'm on my thrid day of Aline 500mg BID, and I'm herxing with flulike malaise and burning skin. Anybody else have this happen to them? How long does it last? Sould I pulse or tough it out?

Yes Alinia can rech some of LYME cyst, paraites and babesia also...so yes can help on diferent direction.You are lucky to have a treatment with it.Is very exsp and ins do not want to pay for more than 1 week.
We all have parasites and this one really gets them.

I'm on day 4 of Alinia and I feel flulike malaise and lethargic. How long does herxing last? I'm supposed to go to work in 2 weeks fulltime.
Should I pulse? Stick it out? Anyone else with herxing on Alinia experience?
