Is anyone out there in my boat? Before I became extremely ill with the Lyme Disease (which I later found out is chronic neuro lyme) I gained over 40 pounds and over the course of the next four years I have gained another 40 with effort. I cannot exericse and have even tried to just do step touches and I am knocked out and in bed. The most I can be happy to do is a day at a store, which is very difficult and sets me back.

I thought If I could lose the weight I'd lose weight. I've found that I have hirishimo's thyroid and don't know if that causes weight gain, and I also have some adrenal problems and some progesterone deficiencies. Would these three things cause weight gain or inability to lose.

My NP in Dr, J's office is gone!

NCLymie,

I am not in your same boat since I've been losing weight, but I do know that if you thyroid is sluggish, that yes, that will definitely put weight on you since before my lyme diagnosis, they were treating me for thyroid issues and I was putting on weight.

Also, all sorts of hormone things can also be the culprit. Would you N.P. be able to do blood work to check these things out and get you on the proper medication to balance it out?

With treatment of lyme, I'm told I MIGHT be able to get off my thyroid medication as things improve....but too early to know how things will go.

Another thing for me, is that I got very strict with the Lyme/Candida diet and got recipes from The Whole Approach boards and have actually been losing weight since my treatment with absolutely no exercise.

My LLMD told me that it was still too early for me to do any exercising at this point (I'm four months into treatment), so all this weight loss has to be from diet I would imagine and it's suppose to help with yeast AND starving spirochetes.

In any case, I do hope you can get this resolved. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hi NC,

I'm in exactly the same....I mean scary how similar....boat as you are.

Even with thryoid meds, including T3, nothing. [Frown]

So just yesterday I started the atkins diet. High protein, moderate fat and low carbs.

I'm hoping this will help me as I can't exercise either, though I try. I always end up hurting, even from just doing the dishes or walking.

I'll let you know if I'm successful. Good luck and keep us posted.

Have you tried rebounding? Do a search here and you'll find lots of information on it.

It is simple; you basically stand there and slowly bounce - your feet don't even need to leave the rebounder.

I love mine and try to use it a little every day.

I wear short tights and a sports bra to swim in . You can find sports bra/ shirt combos that fully cover. The shorts I wear are Champion Powerliner. They really hold the jello effect and come down to about my knee.

This makes me look ok-ish at the pool. I am still not skinny and have gained w/lyme. Besides ...... you HAVE to find a way to move. Focusing on not exercising because of what people will think is just not ok. F***'em .....

Ten years ago, when I started working out, I was 283 lbs and went to a body builder type gym .......... I got 99% encouragement and support from other members (even the big, burly, guys)the other 1% watched along as I went from 283 to 155 ........ I think they stopped judging me somewhere along the descent.

Do not let what other people think stop you from getting what you need.

Well, I don't think anyone is as chronically fatigued as I am. I just got a bunch of testing back, and it turns out that I have a thyroid condition, low testosterone, high cotisol and low DHEA.

Now found out my doctor has left and I am looking for treatment for all of this. I believe that my throid and adrenal failure is the cause as well as everything else.

So, no wonder I cannot exercise without going back to bed for a week or falling over on my but.

Thanks for your help.

Grace
