please give me your opinion on unpasteurized milk. I'm trying to decide which kind is best. Thanks.

the first word that comes to mind:

leptospirosis~~~!!

occupational high risk for leptospirosis:

dairy farmers & sewage workers

TV trivia:
they had an episode of "Judging Amy" where a dairy farmers kid got leptospirosis

An acquaintence got Brucellosis from drinking raw milk. Granted, she was in another country...but if you have lyme, you sure as heck don't need further problems!

I have an acquaintance that absolutely swears by raw (unpasteurized) goat milk. She makes many health claims that are quite compelling and I always enjoy hearing about different experiences.

But for me... I decided to sit that one out. I already had fears of pasteurized dairy.

I wouldn't touch it, and as much as I like cheese like Brie, I won't touch that either anymore.

Sure, let's collect a few more infections... [Smile] I would certainly not do it.

If you have a reputable farmer, I think it's fine.

We've drunk raw milk for over three years now with no issues at all. I swear it is part of why my girls have flown through abx with no stomach issues to speak of. However, I trust our farmer, he is required to test his herd for TB, brucellosis, etc. by PA Dept. of Agriculture, and I can go look at the milking parlor and animals anytime I want to. He runs a clean business and we love the milk/cheese/meats he provides.

It is something you'll have to decide for yourself. Go to www.realmilk.com to find raw milk sources near you.

I belong to the Weston Price collective and get raw milk products and grass fed meats and organ meats and so on. Its all delicious.

However, I just learned that even the best farmers, even the Amish, milk their cows while the cows are pregnant. So you are getting lots of hormones.

So sadly I'm cutting way down on my raw and organic dairy. It tastes so delicious, but...

I do think its safe if you are part of a good collective or know your farm personally.

Brie is made from unpasteurized milk, usually. So is Camembert.
