Said hospital that did test on me turned in my Lyme Disease and he wanted to make sure I was treated and doing ok.
I explained that I was treated after 5 other doctors refused to treat me and I almost had to go out of town and that it took two months to be treated. He said from my test results I should have been treated immediately.
Very sad..I was in the hospital the first of January and now someone is concerned.....

So your tests were CDC positive? Did you use Igenex to get these positive results?
Those ducks deserve to get lyme disease themselves!

Same happened with me. I guess it's a new law as of 2004, I believe that any positive CDC results are automatically sent to your local county health department.
I never would have known I was positive because my PCP called me up and said my results were negative when it clearly said POSITIVE for IGENX and CDC on the Western Blot for chronic lyme.
I have no idea why he said this. probably because I begged him 3 years ago for this test and he said no and it was all in my head and said I was in pain because I was depressed and prescribed anti-deppressants. I didn't take them.
He still insists it's negative !! He called me and said so.
He said he also called IGENX and spoke to the doctor there and the doc said I was unequivocally negtive ".
My mom called and spoke to the IGenx doctor and he said I am definately positive ( both CDC and NYS and for the lab ) and he NEVER spoke to my doctor.
What a nutcase !! Thats why I came on here and had to double check if I was positive because he keeps telling me I am not.
First he threatened to not authorize any treatment, then recinded that threat and only agreed to treat me for 3 weeks and if I am not better by then, he is not authorizing anymore treatment !! Geez...malpractice, much ?
I love my Integrative Medicine doc, Dr S, who is treating me, but because of my insurance I HAVE to go through this PCP. Yikes ! Doc S is only covered as an emergency care physician for my insurance. Boo : (
So, the health department is the only reason I know I am positive after 10 years of being bit and 6 years of illness, so for that I am thankful.

Yourtrouble -- thanks for sharing this story. I hope you are on the road to recovery now. You should have been treated immediately, and sorry to hear how you were treated.
Jamie -- that treatment from your PCP is outrageous and shameful. If you have the energy for it, perhaps you should check with a lawyer? So sorry to hear that you have been treated like that.

It took me almost two years to be diagnosed. Well, at least with the correct illness. Then two months after that to find a doc to treat me.
I told the gentleman at the health department that he was welcolm to give my name out to anyone else suffering from this illness, I would be glad to share my experience and help if I can.

Aren't you allowed to choose your PCP?
If I didn't like one, I chose another.
One year I went through 3.
One GP who said I had the stomach flu, on to an internest who said I may have colon issues,
on to a GI who correctly dx. me with gallstones!!!
I would hope that you could find another doctor on your plan.

I think suing some of these bozos for malpractice in such clear cut cases is not a bad idea.
If you had cancer and he kept insisting it was just a bruise or was in your head, despite lab tests to the contrary, wouldn't a malpractice suit be warranted?
A little fear of malpractice for their gross negligence might balance their fear of the controlled medical boards.

You could report your PCP's name to health department or maybe even sue him/her? Why would a doctor do things like that, ego?!!
Not sure of your insurance, BCBS allows you to change your PCP online, pretty convenient if you choose to do so.
I'm reading "how doctors think" (husband bought it for me from amazon) and most doctors themselves agree if your doctor doesn't like you (no personality match, or false conception), change to another doctor ASAP.

yeah, a majority of malpractices come from misjudgement (sometimes even on purpose, just like Jamie's duck PCP)!

yourtroubl - It's good to hear some positive things are going on: you had positive test results, eventually found a dr to treat, & health dept belatedly followed up on report of your Lyme disease.
My concern is that you said it took 2 yrs to get a diagnosis. I'm wondering if you're receiving adequate treatment & if co-infections have been considered.
Unfortunately, some drs are labeled "Lyme Drs" based on the fact they've treated some cases of LD. Too often, they prescribe the typical dose of antibiotic. which most LLMDs have found to be inadequate. (That's what happened to me.)
I don't know what your treatment is or who your Lyme dr is, but I recommend you check it out. Read the info about "Antibiotic Choices & Doses" & "Treatment Categories" (pages 17-19) in the following: www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html
Note that on p.19, for Early Disseminated Disease, he recommends "oral therapy until no active disease for 4 to 8 weeks."
As you know, we don't post drs' names here, but you could say what state (s)he is in.
Since you've come this far, I just don't want you to receive inadequate treatment. Hopefully, it's fine.

I am actually being treated by doc who was at the Illads conference last fall and he is using their protocol for antibiotics.
He is in Hurricane, WV. 1 mile from me.
I saw about 7 or 8 docs before I finally had a stroke and was hospitalized and neuro did lyme test and then, of course, refused to treat it. Now, Rheumy, refuses to see me anymore because of the Lyme diagnosis. So strange.

Boy, that stinks! Trouble, you and Jamie really got the runaround. I would sue also if I had a clear cut case.

I think that depends entirely upon the state in which you reside.
