This may sound strange but here goes. My tongue has been swelling for the last couple of days.

You know those bumps on your tongue in the back, on the sides? well, mine are very swollen and I feel like I am having a difficult time swallowing. Also my neck feels swollen and it also affects my swallowing.

I have noticed that the bottom of my tongue looks black and icky, dark purple. also, the inside of my mouth is totally white, and smooth. These are not patches, the entire mouth is shiny and white.

Is this normal?

I don't know if I am allergic to something or maybe it's lyme. I did go to the beauty shop and my beautician was ill. He ran a temperature of 104 just the day before I went in.

I don't know what's going on but when I'm out and this starts, I feel like I'm choking and can't breathe. It's scary.

Can you please throw some ideas out as to what it might be? Strep, etc.,,,

kind of scary -- eating seems to make it worse, at least the swelling of the tongue...

A chinese doctor I have been to says that black tongue and swelling tongue is sluggish liver chi. It could mean that you need to detox more.

I'd still want to get checked out to make sure you are not having an anaphylactic reaction to something, because that could get scarey.

I, also, would get in to the primary.

The white stuff may just be thrush, but the dr.
will know what to do.

The tongue stuff.......I went through the fat tongue
phase, too, when on the heavy schedule of
abx. Talked weird. And surfaces were "weird".....

I dont think I
had the wherewithall to analyze as good as you, at that time, though

Neck and tongue could just be lymph clogging, too,
but again, the MD needs to be consulted. I also would recommend calling llmd office to see what they say.

I also would read up on detox and probiotics, candida treatments, diet, etc.

Randi, here's a site that will give you some info about the tongue and a sick body. It won't tell you what to do, but it might explain how the tongue reacts to other organs etc.

I've been off abx for 4 years and I still have tongue problems. Tongue sx started after stopping 3 yrs of abx. My tongue swells and I have teeth indentions on sides. A coating that changes appearance sometimes daily. I had it swabbed and looked at by the lab. Doc said it was a good bacteria that my body is overproducing to fight bad guys.

Could be yeast or strep strep is liked by lyme according to Lida Mattman.

I'd check for yeast soon, too.
also a black tongue can be caused by meds. I once had it from hydroxychloroquin.
Never heard of this as a lyme symptom - but I think this could cause anything. Go for yeast, seems most likely to me - but of course, I am no doc.

I am recovering from "black tongue syndrome." It turns out that it was yeast. Once I went on the strictest Yeast Diet, it started going away. Today I woke up and it was almost gone! A prescription of Diflucan will help get the rest of the yeasties in my body.

Get yeast checked out is my advice. It's a pretty weird problem and can do odd things.

I had tounge issues, too. It wasn't exactly the same as you described but it was sore & white with patches & a weird taste. My doctor said it was candida (or thrush as it's sometimes called). He prescribed some Fluconazole & it got better. It good to avoid all dairy & sugar but the Fluconazole really did the trick. I take Jarro acidopholis & Nystatin, as well. My Dr. gave me a large prescription of the Fluconazole & he told me to take it as needed & alternate with the Nystatin. He also gave me some herbal preparation to protect th liver since the Fluconazole can be toxic after a while. I only take it if I really need it, though. I take the nystatin & acidopholis every day.
