Hi All. This week I will be starting for the first time my initial dose of Rocephin. A nurse will come to my home and insert the line and administer the first of many daily doses. Myself or my wife will thereafter administer the remaining doses. Any advice or support from you would be so much appreciated. Thanks

you can do searches here at Lymenet for IV rocephin and come up with lots of reading...
Take notes on what the nurse tells you to do...so you will remember how to do it yourself. But, don't worry, if you forget, I'm sure they will have someone on call for you to call. I had to call a nurse once.
It helps to have a coat stand of sorts to hang the IV bag on. Or, a coat hanger hung from a curtin rod...
I had my picc line installed in a hospital, and they did an x-ray to make sure it was in the correct place. Will you be having an x-ray to check the placement????? I would be concerned about that....

Hey-I feel like an ole pro at this -just starting me sixth week. Hardest part was not knowing what to expect-kind of like where you are now.
Nurse just came today to put in this week's IV. Heating pad on the arms prior to procedure helps. My instructions are written down.
All I can tell you is that I was a nervous nellie before it all started. Now it's all just part of the daily/weekly routine.
So you have my support. As far as advice? use heating pad on arms just prior to nurse putting IV in. Good Luck , keep us posted.

Watch out for gall bladder sludging! Are you going to take Actigall to prevent this? You should.
I did just 6 weeks Rocephin 18 months ago, just 2g/day, 5 days per week. Had horrific colic attacks in weeks 4 and 6 , so had to stop due to sludging and gallstones.....I was not given the option of Actigall!

I did 6 months of IV Rocephin and am currently taking a break from it and doing some spring cleaning...getting the toxins out.
I am using Buhner's herbs and also addressing the Babesia.
As an alternative to gall bladder meds, you can have periodic ultrasounds done to check your gall bladder. My LLMD also had me doing blood tests every 2 weeks to check on my liver.
Until further notice, I am keeping my PICC line.

I believe you can get a midline, but not a picc (central catheter), at home. I copied the following from the internet:
The midline catheter, a type of IV line that is in between a routine IV and a central catheter. It is inserted through a vein near the elbow and threaded through a large vein in the upper arm. Though relatively durable, at four to six inches the midline catheter is not long enough to introduce some highly irritating medications. A nurse can insert a midline catheter at the patient's bedside; no imaging guidance is needed.

If the nurse is coming to your house ask if you can vidoetape how she does it. Then the video will be your notes.
My PICC was placed in the hospital because afterwards they took an X-ray to insure proper placement. And I was pregnant at the time so the need for the X-ray outwayed any risk.

You CAN get a PICC inserted at home (I did*)! BUT you HAVE to have a MOBILE X-RAY Unit come and take an x-ray to make sure it is placed properly- to make sure in relation to the heART it is placed properly- was $500 years ago- don't know how much now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Line care and the line became old hat very quickly- backing up is nothing to panic over- learn how to flush your line and as one nurse told me do it at least once a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did it twice a day- worth it to avoid a clot although I got one of those too and it was no big deal- that was pre-me-flushing line a lot- after that- no clots!
