I lost my note from the nurse who told me I was not to take a certain drug/abx since I was on heparin. I am thinking it was Plaquenil, but I received a Clindaymcin and Plaquenil protocol the other day from my doctor's office.
Can any one tell me what it is that I can not take while on Heparin?
Thanks, Karla

Hi Karla
Do a search on Google, using the words of the ABX, "heparin" and possibly something like "interaction". You should be able to find what you are looking for.

I see 2 abx on that list that I took while on heparin. The only problem I could see is that heparin makes the abx more potent by removing the fibrin barrier and so less is needed to bring on a hefty size herx. Less abx is always a good thing.

I have been on coumadin since the blood clot and must stay on them due to my situation for MANY more months.
You can take pretty much any antibiotic while on antibiotics BUT you have to get your INR checked more often. From there your doctor will adjust how much heparin you take.
Of course you have to discuss this with your doctor, but this is what we do for me. We've found some antibiotics make my blood waaay too thin very quickly, while others are okay. It varies each time. Biggest thing is to watch for bruising and get your level checked often enough and stay in touch with your doctor.

I have been on Warfarin too and took antibiotics that you weren't suppose to take while on Warfarin. I just took less of the Warfarin and had a pro-time done every week.
My doctor just checked my blood more often and adjusted the Warfin if needed. It really wasn't that big of a deal. I did it under a doctors supervision though.
I would only take a blood thinner and antibiotic together under a doctors supervision. My blood was way to thin a couple times.
