Someone I met who also has lyme just told me that the reason I'm not getting better is because I'm on too low dosage of antibiotics. Please, I need opinions: I take 2,000 mg. of amoxicillin a day and 400 mg. of doxy a day. Does anybody else think that's too low? [confused]

The amount of meds you take depends on how sick you are at the moment and what your symptoms are. I start about 6 new meds on the 30th along with 6 or 7 natural supplements. Can't afford this disease haha. [shake]

These are evidence based guidelines developed by ILADS.

Dosage

Increasingly, clinicians recommend that certain drugs used for Lyme disease be given at higher daily doses: for example, 3,000-6,000 mg of amoxicillin, 300-400 mg doxycycline, and 500-600 mg of azithromycin. Some clinicians prescribe antibiotics using blood levels to guide higher doses. Close monitoring of complete blood counts and chemistries are also required with this approach.

Does anyone get their blood levels of abx checked? I have read this several places but was wondering if it is being done in clinical practice.

I have been in treatment with abx for 2.5 months and LLMD has not made mention of checking blood levels of abx to make sure that I have the right levels in my blood to kill the damn bugs.

Are those the only two abx you've taken? Maybe it's time for a change??

Sounds like enough to me....maybe a tad more amoxy??

It may not be the dosing of your abx thats not making you better. Everyone is different and get better on different doses. I don't think your dose of abx is low.

But there are some things that everyone with LD has to address to heal.

1.Treating for Co-infections

2.Getting rid of Heavy Metals: Mercury, Aluminum, Tin, Lead, Cadmium, etc.

3.Your Diet: Yeast control, Avoiding Chemicals (Aspartame & MSG)

4.How long you've sick prior to abx

5.Detoxing

Not sure if you have addressed these or not, but it may be something to discuss with your doctor (especially the heavy metals)

Good luck,
Lisi
