This is my second new topic post, I'm pretty new. I've had a series of three Erythema Migrans lesions at the original site over the last 6-8 weeks, no other symptoms. The ER doc diagnosed it, although I saw 2 other Dr.s first. I was prescribed 3 weeks of Doxycycline. You have all told me to see a specialist, and I am planning on doing so,but what WOULD the treatment be in early Lyme disease? WOuld three weeks be enough?

i don't think so, but I'm not sure. Other more informed people may help. My doc said at least 8 weeks.

Good question!!!
Even by LLMDs Doxycycline is almost ALWAYS FIRST because it works against Ehrlichiosis/ Anaplasmosis, has SOME inhibitory action against Babesiosis (is used as prophylactic for malaria) and works against Lyme as well!!!!!!! ONLY drug that has such broad action for TBDs that I know of!!!!!!!!!!! Generally unless you are tiny/petite (200 mg a day) the dosage would be 400 mg a day from a Lyme doc but 3 weeks is NOt very long at all!!!! I would try to get it extended!!!!!!!
And watch out re sun sensitivity- Doxy can cause that majorly and you don't want to get burnt!!! And take with food because it can make you nauseous if you don't*)!*)!! Best wishes, Sarah

p.s. I was caught like you with rash and was given 1 month and it got me ALMOST well!!! Then they wouldn't give me any more, let me decline and after a year of getting worse orals did nothing!!! If they had only given me one or two more months I believe I would have gone into full remission then because I was so responsive- and you may be responsive to 3 weeks, I hope so, but it is far safer to get another months worth! One month or two more of orals now could save you years of continued care!!!!

I would go for 4-6 wks, preferably 6 at 400mg a day.
The spirochetes replicate every 4-6 wks and you want to get every last booger!!!
I would go with 750mg's 250 3 x a day, one of the cycylines doxy tetra mino, and either flagyl,tindamax,or tini flagyl 3 x a day,tindamax 2 x a day etc.Thats a good start and prayer that it works.
at least 6 weeks and get on probiotics too.
