Hey all,

I would like to hear your experiences.

I started Diflucan 6 days ago. Since then I have had new symptoms surface. The most noticable is that my legs are very very weak.

I can not stand for longer than 10 minutes without leaning on something. When walking, I feel like my legs could give out at any moment.

Rubbery legs.... Not good.

Next, I have had swollen, painful tonsils. I am also getting gross drainage in the back of my throat. Sorry this is gross.. but yellow flem for the first hour in the morning.

It seems logical that this could be a yeast die off from the addition of Diflucan.

I would like to hear your experiences. Does any of this sound like something you have gone through?

Also, the doc is 100% sure that I am infected with Babs.. He's going to start me on babs treatment once I get through 30 days of Diflucan. That sounds like fun!!

Thanks for your replies.

Hi Visual.

Were you on any probiotics BEFORE starting the Diflucan? Like, did you use Theralac or something similar?

If NOT, then you're likely exactly right. I've heard of Diflucan causing herxing. In fact, there is a protocol that treats lyme with Diflucan. Forget the name... Schardt maybe?

The yuck in the back of your throat sounds like yeast.

How's the afterimages these days?

I know I herxed on diflucan....

It made me feel bad, bad. bad.

Of course I had no idea about lymenet and didn't

Have the benefit of all of the very knowledgeable

People here.

Didn't know anything about probiotics or detoxing.

Hang in there....

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hugs,

Hey there,

I have been on Threelac for the last 7 months. I don't take it 3 times a day like I should, but I'm taking it atleast once a day.

Maybe it's just another Herx? It's just different because I haven't had this severe leg weakness before. And usually during my normal herx's I get bad bad brain fog.

This time I don't have bad brain fog. Maybe I got my wish. I had said leave my brain/thoughts alone. I'd take the physical pain over the psychosomatic pain.

Careful what you wish for.

I plan on calling the Doc tomorrow and let him know whats going on. I'm on enough meds to fund a small pharmacy. Maybe it's a drug interaction?

The visual stuff is getting better. But like anything, it gets better and then comes back like a lion. Yesterday the visual stuff was OK, today it's bad. Probably all part of this herx.

Thanks for your replies! It helps knowing that someone else has been through this, and can assure me that it will pass.

I have huge fungal/mold issues and could hardly put one foot in front of the other for several weeks when I started diflucan, so you are not alone. Fatigue is not usually a problem for me but this fatigue was intense. I had to stop it for the time being, too hard on my liver right now but powerful stuff!

I took diflucan for 2 days. I broke out in hives and my spleen and liver hurt. My doc put me on benedryl and had a ct scan of the abdominal done. Also liver enzymes. I now have an enlarged liver but my enzymes are good. Hives went away after 5 days of bendryl.

I don't think I'm taking diflucan again.

diana,

How long did you take Diflucan before you had to stop?

elle,
Geez... sounds like you found a drug that you are allergic to. Are you doing okay on the abx?

Hello Visual,
I have had quite severe intestinal problems for the last 14 yrs. In fact this symptom was by far the worst, It's not cool pooping on yourself all the time!!!

I had seen numerious Gastro docs, all without much sucess.

On my first llmd appointment, I was put on 200mg diflucan 2x day for 6 days, then 30 days of 200mg along with proboitics. Within a week my intestines became normal again and I have not had any problems in the last several months!!

On the downside, I had a severe headache and joint pain. My right knee is often sore but within 3 days of starting Diflucan it had swollen to a large grapefruit and even with a brace I could not walk on it for several days.

After 30 days of Diflucan, I was placed on nystatin which does not seem to cause as many joint pains.

I have changed my diet to only fish, meat, and salads. it's tough but I do feel much better.
When I cheat i can tell the difference.
Wishing you the best,
Ken

I took diflucan for 5 weeks-my liver enzymes went through the roof during the first week then back to normal by the 4th-likely from the die off of not only the mold/fungus but also the heavy metals and borrelia.

I stopped after art testing showed it was not the right thing for me now but I will likely go back on it again later.

Dr. K said something about the borrelia not squirting as it dies off so it should be easier to tolerate. I need to clarify exactly what is meant by this. if anyone else knows more about this-please post-Gigi?

That's sounds like a ton of diflucan to me. My doc had me on 200 but it was only once a day. Unfortunately, it was for only 2 weeks.

But I, too, developed very bad liver and spleen problems. I hurt so bad I could hardly bend over or sleep.

I wish he'd give me something else.

Right now am trying just theralac and diet but it doesn't seem to be helping all that much.

No sugar diet is _the_ most important! Since sugar with instantly cause yeast and lyme to grow, grow, grow. Diflucan is a heavy-duty yeast killer and if you have high quantities of systemic yeast dying it'll cause its own "die-off" reactions in your body due to the load on your immune system.. weak legs, headaches, etc. I had the same experience with olive leaf and minorly with nystatin last year.
After dealing with detoxing and yeast maintenance for years I personally prefer the more gentle but also potent anti-yeasties like grapefruit seed extract.
But...

Since most of us are stuck on no-sugar diets to deal with our yeast/lyme fun, I wanted to share an AWESOME sugar alternative with everyone that is 100% natural & safe sweetener, tastes fantastic and it kills yeast as well as harmful bacteria (does not kill good bacteria). It will not suppress your immune system like sugar and is even safe for diabetics. It's called Xylitol (it's made from birch trees or corn cobs). I've been using it every day instead of sugar for 3 years now and it keeps the yeast to a minimum without die-off effects as well as helping out my immune system. I buy mine from www.emeraldforest.com but you can get it from any other retailer.. i trust them the most because they have very high quality standards.
I don't think it can directly impact the lyme, but it does help with the sweet tooth and yeast and immune system help [Big Grin] . You can even cook and bake with it!

Also...

For you choco-holics out there I came across this company making sugar free chocolate with 100% natural and safe sugar alternatives. www.lowcarbspecialties.com they're a little pricey ($2.00/bar) but taste like the real thing.

Hugs to all, especially anyone having a tough time right now!

At one point I did have yeast soooo bad i also had my spleen aching, weak legs, heachaches by using other potent but natural anti-yeasties.. with my experience, i just stuck with the diet and the natural yeast-killers but in mild doses and work up to a maintenance amount until i didn't feel quite so much discomfort/die-off effects (eventually i switched to mainly relying on xylitol each day to keep yeast controlled because it's much more pleasant than anything else i've tried and i've tried nearly everything). In my experience, if your body is complaining via pain/discomfort due to the anti-yeast doses, lower it even if just a little.

I also take a high-fiber supplement every day that helps my body get out all the gunk/dead guys.. which in turn helps relieve the stress from my liver, kidneys while detoxing all this stuff.
