Hey guys! For the past two weeks I have been experiencing nightmares and/or really weird (violent) dreams. Anyone else get this? I used to have nightmares all the time, literally, along with "sleep disturbances".
When I went on rx for dep/anx they went away. Now the depression and irritability is back somewhat, but I was told this also a Lyme symptom. I'm on Flexiril (1/2 tab) to help with the 'sleep problems'

Depression and Anxiety is a real and very common symptom of bb (Lyme). Before diagnosis, I was having panic attacks almost every day.
Bb and it's ugly cousins (the coinfections) cause your body to get way out of balance. For me it's a general feeling of being UNWELL. Something isn't right here.. Docs call it Malise.
I took Paxil CR for 6 months to get me back into control of my life. Paxil is a STRONG anti-depressant. It knocked the depression and anxiety down so far that I nearly forgot about them. But coming off if it was difficult. It's an effective SSRI, but very hard to wean yourself off of.
Today I'm on a low dose of Lexipro to keep the anxiety to a minimum. I look forward to the day when my body is back in balance and I don't have to take the psych meds.
I wish you the best of luck as you move forward. But try to remember, it's the Bb that is making you feel this way. Kill the Bb and you will no longer need the psych meds.

Yes, it is a lyme symptom, and a very common one at that. It is more common in children, but not uncommon for older people to have them. I went through a nasty phase of having nightmares every night. My doctors (LLMD's) said that nightmares have to do with nuero-lyme and that they come in phases.
Just remember that they're not real and try to get some sleep where you can.

I have nightmares when herxing, especially when I'm on babs meds. (Are you treating babs now?)
Had nightmares and sleep issues before treatment as well, but it became worse with herxing.
All of this improved with mepron for me, too.

Thanks for your comments. My LLMD told me tonight that it may be the neuro aspect of the Chronic Lyme. He wants me to increase my Klonapin dose at bedtime. He also said it may be a reaction to the Flexeril, so not to increase my dosage there. He wants to be careful with meds because of the difficulty my Psyc. had in finding the right mix to deal with the dep/anx (took over a year-pure H___).
Note: I have not started any treatment yet because I will be part of a medical study (for Lyme) beginning in June. Still waiting on IgenX results, but I am IgM positive. I do not know if I have Babs too.

Hello,
I have nightmares every time that I have tried taking a bit of melantonin before going to sleep!
If anyone has any idea why that happens (could there be a melatonin herx??), please let me know! Thanks!

I had horrible nightmares and even episodes of night terrors. I would scream, kick, punch, in my sleep. After lyme treatment and coming to terms with this illness, I have have less episodes.

Hi EWT1638,
I have had vivid nightmares and sleep problems as well. I also had alot of intrusive thoughts/ violent images.
Treatment with abx did help along with Elavil, Ambien, Melatonin, sleepytime tea for sleep and detoxing.
