Clindmycin/quinine for babesia?

I think clindimycin is either 150mg - 3 x a day OR 150 - mg 4 times a day. I seem to be finding both doses.
Anyone know the correct dose? Is it weight dependent?

Quinine is 650mg - 3 x a day.... i am pretty sure on this part. I have been told by pharmacy that this is no longer available in generic ..... pulled from the market. Now you can only get QUALAQUIN 324 MG CAPSULE. This is Brand quinine.

Has anyone had ear ringing from quinine that became permanet? If one gets the ear ringing does that mean this drug should be stopped permanently?

Hi Robi,

I did the quinine for 5 days, I don't know at which dosage because I was in hospital, but it was awful, awful at the end (4th, 5th day), it completly ****ed my ears, if someone closed a dorr it was like a terrible shock, and then the ringing was unbelievable. I was petrified, but as soon as I got off it, it all stopped (say the day after). I don't think you are mean to take it for long though. Anyway, the bad news is it did nothing for me...

I would be VERY cautious about taking 3 per day. I could only tolerate 1 per day.

I think the tinnitus is permanent if you continue to take it while your ears are ringing off the wall.

If you stop the meds or lower your dosage, you should be OK. Read the medical insert carefully.

here a case of permanent damage in ears with 650x3/day, i had luck that 'only' hard ring, not vertigo or hearing lost, is very hard sleeping, not more silence but i believe that is reducing a few; was good the two last days in treatment but when quinine stopped bab returned at the next morning; doctors treat the chronic bab as acute and in my case always failed, sure depend the class of bab, whould be better the continous very low dosis long time and you need maintain it without ring, ototoxicity is real; quinine always need be watched by a doctor, 650x3/day is a hospital treatment

Robi,
I don't know the dosage of Quinine but took OTC (when it was still available) Leg-a-trin, years ago, my doc thought it would stop muscle spasms, leg cramps, etc...

Ok, long story, longer.

I took the dosage on the box. The roaring in my ears was so loud I couldn't bear it. It was loud enough to keep me awake, too. I never took another one. [shake]

My opinion, for what little it's worth, is if you take the first one and your ears roar call the doc, asap.
