I don't think any artificial sweetener is good. Every time they come out with a new one, they say how wonderful it is and how it's not bad for your health, then after several years, they start talking about how bad it is for you. I remember when Equal was supposed to be a miracle sweetener.

I'd skip it. I think it's bad in general.

I eat Splenda sometimes. It is more tasty than any other artificial sweetenet. Others leave this chemical after taste that I hate.

Everything in moderation and you should be fine.

If you take abx and have strong cravings for sugar Splenda can save your life [Smile]

But it is prudent and perhaps better not to eat it.

Stevia is a natural sweetener that I've heard good things about but haven't tried. I'm fortunate that I don't have much of a sweet tooth. When I want something sweet, I'll eat some berries. [Razz]

I hate taste of Stevia. Also it has proven ability to cause cancer in some animals when given in large quantities.

I mean there are unknowns. Perhaps Splenda is also harmful but we don't know.

What I find interesting about Splenda is that it was actually discovered by someone while he was working on developing an insecticide!

It is made from sugar, but it's chlorinated. You might want to check out mercola.com -- he has a lot of research about the negative efects of Splenda, i.e. sucralose.

I also really hate the taste of stevia. I use splenda sparily. I use more of xylitol. I also use it xylitol sparily because too much of it can give me GI gas.

Here's some links on xylitol:

Consider giving stevia a try. The "Now" brand in powder or tablets is the best.

Something to watch out for with non-nutrative sweeteners is that the taste on your tongue will cause an immediate insulin release.

This can result in a sudden drop in your blood sugar. People tend to binge more and gain weight on non-nutrative sweeteners.

There are IMPROVED stevia products out now. I also used to HATE the taste of it.

I buy Sweet Leaf brand. It comes in handy packets for traveling. I also buy the vanilla flavored liquid stevia by Sweet Leaf to use at home.

They have about 10 other flavorings in the liquid form. The vanilla is awesome!
