In about 20% of Rheumatoid Arthritis victims, nodules will appear usually around the elbow or wrist. It usually indicates severe RA.

My heart sank when a couple of months ago, a hard knot the size of a pea appeared just below my left elbow. After a couple of days though, it disappeared and the area became dark red much like a bruise. It cleared and was gone.

My RA bloodwork has dropped from a high moderate to a weak positive and the rheumy says I am nearly dormant. Yea!

Well, yesterday morning that knot appeared again and it was very hard and stationary. This time I rubbed some LymeEssence essential oil on it and within hours the knot was gone and the dark red spot appeared.

Anyone else have any experience with this? To the best of my knowledge, RA nodules do not go away like this.

Posters on another site for rheumatoid say this is NOT a typical rheumatoid nodule.

Doesn't anyone here have any experience with this?

Not sure about this one, Luvs, but we certainly do experience a lot of different and unique symptoms. The good news is that it responded to something relatively simple.

Up for any other ideas?

I wonder if your elbow is "cleaning house" and some of the gunk from the joint is temporarily lodging in your tissues or blood vessels. The oil application stimultes circulation and helps it dissipate but leaves a bruise where the deposit was.

The only other thing I can think of is bursitis, and I say that only because a friend recently had a hard nodule near his elbow diagnosed as such.

Guys,

Thanks for your responses. I am truly perplexed on this one.

Truth,

I like that idea of cleaning house. It is occurring on my left arm and my left wrist has been very effected throughout this ordeal. I sure hope that is what is happening.

Tree,

I'm sure you know that mycoplasma is a suspected microbe causing Rheum. Arthritis which I have. RA can cause nodules, but according to those at the rheum. website I visit, they do not come and go like mine are doing. One person there did point out that Lyme disease can cause nodules.

I didn't know this but am not too surprised to hear it since Lyme is also a proven cause of RA. I tried to google lyme nodules and could not find anything I could actually decipher. I did find plenty of referrences to lyme nodules though.

What do you know about mycoplasma and nodules? Any info I can read?

Sue,

LymeEssence oil is sold by Farah at www.yinessence.com. She had lyme disease too and created this oil combination to help her. She talks of using it to break up cysts so I tried it on the nodule and it disolved it quick fast. The first time I had a nodule, I did nothing and it took several days to disappear then followed by the same bruising effect. Farah frequently posts here at lymenet. I'm sure you can do a search on her.
