i know this is a controversial topic, but i have to ask
do painkillers inhibit your immune function.
i am sometimes in pain so bad (like many of you) that i want to play in traffic.
i take pecoset and sometimes mscontin to cope
now if it DOES inhibit immune function, what does someone do for the pain?javascript:void(0) confused
and is it better to deal with the pain since severe pain ALSO inhibits immune function?

Pain inhibits the immune system. So if you have a choice, then choose the method where you don't have the pain.

If pain medications are the only things that relieve your pain, then take them.
If you can find some relief (say with massage therapy) to help reduce how often you need it, then I suggest that too.
But sitting in pain will only make everything worse.

Pain is stressful and stress lowers immune function. Find the least harmful way to stay out of pain and ofcourse be proactive about avoiding pain triggers.
All of this is easier said than done, but worth it in the long run.
Wishing all of us relief and joy

This is a great question.
For me, Advil or Aspirin gives 12 hrs of complete pain relief. However, I have noticed that neither one reduces the amount of inflammation which is odd since at least Advil is billed as an anti-inflammatory drug.
I honestly believe these two pain killers help initially but ultimately create more pain requiring more pain killer.
This may be the case or it may be that I overdo when on these drugs and the over activity causes additional swelling and pain.
I don't know but I tend to avoid taking them except when absolutely necessary either due to extreme pain or if I have an event coming up that requires me to be on top of my game.
Most of the time my pain level is so low I can get by without them. And I do tend to protect my achy joints better when I can feel the pain.
I'm a horse rider, so what I do tends to put my joints to the test.
