Anyone use this lab for the blood staining pictures, and how was it? I just sent mine in to see babs/bart.
Posted by SForsgren (Member # 7686) on :
I sent mine in as well and am waiting for the results.

Have been wanting to have myself and my son tested. Did you need a doc's referral? Any helpful links or suggestions as to how to proceed?

We are waiting for results also!
I didn't want to call and ask about how long it takes. Anybody who already got results- how long did it take? Pictures only? and Other labs work also?
Our llmd signed the lab form that came with the kit. Our local md's office drew the blood. I believe you do need a doctor to request the testing.
Anyone successful in getting insurance to cover this since I understand it is basically for research only right now?
Thanks, MommaK

I have had my son tested and I just had my blood drawn today. My son's results came back in 2.5 weeks. Both the picture and lab values were included. BTW Bowen, Columbia, MDL, Stonybrook and IGeneX said he was negative for Babeisa, Bartonella and Ehrlichia. He has all three and you can see them plainly in the photo.
Yes, according to the paper work I had today, you need a physician's signiture on the requisition form.
Best, Karen

Can you guys post pictures of your pictures results?
Just blacken out any personal info and the docs info.

Also waiting, soon will be 2 weeks.
How long do you guys wait?
Posted by shoney (Member # 9925) on :
I got my results back today-took 1 week. Saw nothing-nada, negative results. Now I think I'm nuts. Or, I just have lyme-the bart and babs are gone.
Posted by Ruth Ruth (Member # 11059) on :
A negative means that the blood on the slide was clean.
Does that really mean you don't have any? I don't know.
Can the handling/shipping process lower the count? I don't know.
Posted by polar blast (Member # 9142) on :
it does not mean that you dont have it as you may have been on mepron and zith and that would have made the amount of cells in the blood almost undetectable...when I first had the blood test I had profound amounts ...after about three weeks of mepron and zith there was almost none..the lab at the fry said that it is hard to get rid of and likes to hide in the liver..so it will come back out at another time to reinfect..ask your doc about this..also I would do a finger stick and straight to the slide..that is the best way to do it as the microbe does not wash off the cell... eric
Posted by shoney (Member # 9925) on :
I had been on malarone/zith, however, I had been off it for a little over 2 weeks. If I do a finger stick, will they charge me again?
Posted by jasonsmith (Member # 10914) on :
Shoney, yes, if you order another test, then you will be charged again. I paid for my test via my credit card. It's been over a month, and the charge hasn't shown up on my CC.
And, can you post a large picture of your test result? Just photoshop out the lab name and your personal info. I'm mainly interested in the blood smear picture and the differential.
And I would appreciate if the others here that have this test done also provide pics as well.
Thanks

If I stopped the meporn/zith 2 weeks before the test, was that enough time for the babesia to reappear? How long after treatment do you have to wait?
Sorry-I don't have a scanner for pictures.

I heard a great analogy to this:
If you go to the ocean and dip a bucket in the water, and there isn't a fish in the bucket, does it mean there aren't any fish in the ocean?
My daughter only had one or two blood cells infected in her drop of blood. But, she has been herxing like mad for the past six weeks.
It's interesting that you would say that babs likes the liver. She has complained of pain on that side. And you can't take milk thistle with mepron.
So, she is drinking a lot of water, and trying to have lemon and olive oil, too.
Being off for two weeks would certainly help the test results.

So what's the point of the test? I suppose if you get a positive, you know you have it, but again, seems like there are a lot of false negatives.
My babs titer was negative-I'm thinking I knocked the germ load done, but not gone.
Posted by kelmo (Member # 8797) on :
If you see it, there's no doubt. I can show this picture to medical professionals and they can't refute it.
I'm not selling the test, just a statement of validation.
You certainly don't have to get it.

You can take the report to the Wal-Mart photo lab and use their scanner to put the image on a CD. Then you could upload the image to your computer, and then to the internet. I use imageshack.us to upload my images and display them.
That is what I had to do as I don't have a scanner either.

To anyone with their results,
Does the lab send the results to your llmd, and then your dr calls you with the results? Or is it different with a hard copy of a photo?
Exactly how did you get your results? Physically pick them up?
Thanks, MommaK
Posted by shoney (Member # 9925) on :
The lab sent results to my LLMD. I haven't seen them yet.
Posted by seibertneurolyme (Member # 6416) on :
The lab sends an actual color photo to the LLMD. We only got a black and white copy from a copy machine from the LLMD -- will ask for the actual photo at our next appointment.
Most docs -- even ones who do not know anything about Lyme and tickborne diseases -- will have a hard time arguing against a positive bloodslide. It proves a current infection whereas they can always argue that an antibody test only proves past infection.

Still waiting
Posted by Ruth Ruth (Member # 11059) on :
Areneli, did you ever get your results back?
Posted by Areneli (Member # 6740) on :
Not yet
Posted by Areneli (Member # 6740) on :
There was confuson with my address and DHL kept envelope with my results for two weeks thinking what they should do.
Finally, one of emplyees checked the phone book and called me at home.
Anyway, my results are clean: no pathogens found.
Posted by Ruth Ruth (Member # 11059) on :
Areneli, glad to hear you finally got your results.
Kind of hard to know if you should be disappointed or relieved isn't it?
Did you have the photo done? If so, can you scan it in and post it? (I think jasonsmith wrote how to do that somewhere...)
It would be nice to see what a "clean" blood smear photo looks like.
Thanks!

I'm thinking the lab might have ****ed up my test. I know it sat on the slide for a week before the test was run.
Posted by Ruth Ruth (Member # 11059) on :
Jason,
For some tests the wait is on purpose, but for a blood smear photo it doesn't really seem like a test. More like a look.
How do you know it sat for a week?
Posted by ibrakeforticks (Member # 6785) on :
Is there a web site or contact info for this lab?
Posted by kelmo (Member # 8797) on :
will PM you
Posted by Areneli (Member # 6740) on :
OK, I have my photograph scanned in a small jpg file.
Now what?
I don't know how to publish it here.
Posted by Areneli (Member # 6740) on :
Apparently the black dots mean nothing. I was positive to Bart before by Igenex.

Well, I called a couple of days after I overt-nighted it, and the lady said the "guy" was going to be off the rest of the week, and would be back the following Monday.
I called that Monday and talked with the "guy" and he said that he had put it on the slide and prepared it and was going to run the test that day (Monday).

Those black dots look different than mine.

My slide looks pretty much the same. Now I wonder how accurate. If you dip a bucket in the ocean, and there are no fish in it, does that mean the ocean has no fish in it?
Posted by locdog (Member # 10372) on :
i see dr f and he does all my tests no charge but he uses my bloodwork in his presentations and research.
He showed me one of my bloodwork slides in a powerpoint presentation he is using and it was kind of scary how bad it was.
I could only see 2 normal bloodcells in the entire thing!!!
I'm ****ed for sure:(

Up for any more photos.
Scott, Mama, others?
Anyone who needs help posting a pic, PM me and I can post it. I can black out the personal info too!
This is fascinating.

JS... So, your blood sample was a week old and all of that stuff showed up for the smear? Wow.
I think it's important to remember that it is a "research lab" and they seem to be a little hit or miss on the customer service side of things.
My photo showed very little. Or "no great evidence" as stated by the Dr. on his phone message.
Which means I still have nothing to take to my HMO to get them to cover treatment.
Sigh!
Posted by jasonsmith (Member # 10914) on :
I'm thinking the lab ****ed my sample up. If you look at mine, the "rings" look too perfect and centered in/on the red blood cells.
