It looks as though it's rather controversial right now as to whether or not Lyme is sexually transmitted. I was recently diagnosed with LD, would anybody suggest that my girlfriend be tested as well?

There are a lot of unknowns in Lyme.
I have it and my husband has it.
I think it would be more likely that we both have it from being in the same area.
In my humble opinion, if your girlfriend shows any symptoms,
Or has spent/spends a great deal of time where you are.....it couldn't hurt.
It is an expensive test....but one that may bring you both peace of mind
Or in the direction of proper treatment if needed.

I would. I wish I had sooner for mine. Also if she turns up negative watch for symptoms in her down the road year or so KEEP watching too.

personally, i wouldn't test unless she starts showing symptoms. it seems to me that lots of people are walking around with the lyme bacteria in their blood, but only a very few of us (relatively speaking) become sick and develop 'lyme disease.'

I would have her tested at the first sign of a Lyme symptom. My LLMD said it was unnecessary to test all my children unless they were symptomatic.
I'm only having one of them tested. It is known that Lyme is passed congenitally.
My hubby shows no symptoms and we've been married 22 years. I know that doesn't mean he doesn't carry it, but we're not having him tested.
I got Lyme before I met hubby.

I'm getting up the nerve to ask the boyfriend to take doxycycline. It's a common acne treatment with few side effects, you just have to wear sunblock and take it after meals.
Just don't have the heart to gamble with someone's life.

Hi,
My great dr., Dr. J in NC is one of only 2 ID drs. in the U.S. who follow ILADS. He told me my dh should get tested because I have Lyme. He also asked if any dc had any problems: mysterious illnesses, learning problems, etc. If so, it would be good for them to get tested.
My other LLMD told me my dh should get tested, too.
The test is $195 through Igenex. You can order the kit, but he dr. has to sign off on it.

If you had/have neurolyme and had sex with her while untreated, then DEFINITELY she should get tested.
If you had/have mild early Lyme then you COULD wait for symptoms.
If you were being treated the whole time and it was just early Lyme then she probably doesn't have to worry.
I think the threat is there if it is advanced Lyme and there is no treatment ongoing to get it out of the bloodstream/fluids. My husband contracted Lyme from me as did my daughter in utero.

If Lyme is sexually transmitted then the entire US would have it anyways, with all the sex that's gone on between people and the lack of treatment over the last 100+years or so.
I would say 100+ years of a STD that isn't treated nor tested is plenty enough time to give it to everyone.
Would you refrain from sex after getting a scratch from a cat(bartonella--cat scratch fever). "Um, yeah... can't have sex for a year because I got scratched from a cat last week, and well, the test aren't reliable, and well, you know how that goes.
Good thing my parents and grand-parents didn't have this mentally. I don't think we would be here now. ---> 'Every sickness someone has is bacterial or viral including autoimmune illnesses, and test are unreliable, and many people have no symptoms which would still make them contagious, and you should never have sex ever again if you've ever got bitten by a tick because you still may have no symptoms and your test can still possibly be negative even though you have it... yeah, goodbye to humans.

If I was a woman and had a boyfriend nicknamed "Rooster", I'd get myself tested for Lyme and every other damn thing.
