Hi... I've posted here before about my 27 month old daughter who apparently contracted Lyme from me in utero. I've been fighting Lyme since 2000, I was infected in 1990...etc. I see an excellent LLMD.
My daughter has an appt with Dr. J at the end of July.
We went to a park on May 5th. After a stroller walk on a path we get to the car and lift her out of her stroller (specifically to keep her from walking in tick areas) and lo and behold there is a deer tick crawling on the seat of her stroller. I flick it off angrily, we do our tick checks there and later.
Days later my daughter develops a classic EM rash on her back. I take a picture and then over the next couple of days there are lesions on the back of her neck and head. Take more pictures. Not sure what to do... the EM rash is quite small, is this from her disseminated infection or a new tick bite? Will reg pediatrician even help?
Saw pediatrician yesterday and asked for enough abx to last until the end of July. Of course, I was denied but offered 14 days of liquid Ceftin for her 165mg twice daily. I took it for lack of anything else.
Do I give this to her and risk a huge crash after 14 days and then she suffers horribly until we see Dr. J?
I've already decided to give it to her starting tomorrow morning... I'm afraid she was bitten so doing nothing at all might be worse. Maybe this dose is low enough that she wouldn't CRASH hard after the course?
I'm afraid of making her worse right now and not having any help for her. Right now she is diagnosed with autistic disorder... seems to have mild symptoms that she can't communicate to me anyway even if she knew they were 'symptoms' and not normal.
Help me out here folks!
A naturopath friend who lives far from us recommended something with Allicin in it. Any suggestions of a liquid I could use? I found liquid Garlique in the health food store but I'm sure it's not as good!

Hi,
I don't know what to tell you, but wanted you to know you & your daughter are in my thoughts and prayers.
Perhaps you could refer to Dr.Burrascano's guidelines at ILADS website. He may have some helpful information in there for your specific situation.
You could take it to your pediatrician if he/she is open to review the recommendations.
For adults, I do know there is a minimum 28 days of antibiotics in an acute case of Lyme.

Does your pediatrician know you have the appt with Dr J in July?
Would (s)he consider consulting with Dr J by phone?
If not, I'd recommend you call Dr J's office & see what they recommend about the Ceftin.

Give it to her!!!!!!!!! For all you know it is enough to keep something from devloping which could be really bad- and time matters!!!!!!!

Can you call Dr. J's and see if he can fit her in sooner given the new developments? She needs to be seen ASAP by someone knowledgeable.

This is the PROBLEM! So few drs. are willing to treat appropriately (ILADS guidelines) that we're forced to wait for appts. with the few who will treat appropriately because they are so booked.
Every dr. in America should be able to treat with ILADS if they believe the patient needs it.
The drs. need education about chronic Lyme.

You have to realize if she has the rash then she has Lyme or the coinfections. As a mother of 3 that have Lyme I would give her the meds immediately and don't stop them. You need to kill as much of the bacteria as soon as possible before if hides in tissues, oragns and joints in the body.
Ask your Dr. to consult with Dr. J on the phone and try to get an earleir appt. I can't stress enough to you how time needs to be on your side.
Fromthe sounds of it too you must realize the autism "disorder" also can be related to you having the disease and passing it on in utero. I urge you to truly not let the disease get any worse and treat the child. If your regular doc won't do it and Dr. J can't get involved yet - I urge you to find another doc in your town that will treat for at least 4-6 weeks.
