Its time now to go to biaxin/plaquenil .This follows clinda/quinine as we are (daughter) to rotate between the two combos.

I admit to being nervous about plaquenil.....especially for my little girl.Throw me the pros and cons and if you have had any children on this how they did.My little sweetie is 13.Thanks,RG

Hi there. I have three daughters with lyme, first infected at ages of 3, 8, and 11. They are now 8, almost 14, and 16 1/2. Still being treated.

They HAVE been treated with plaquenil. Just not the youngest one, yet.

My understanding is that the biggest complaint about this drug is how it affects a person's vision.

However, those concerns arose after people were given very high doses for Rheumatoid arthritis.

At the low doses given to lyme patients, it almost never causes a problem.

My girls, my husband, and myself have NOT had our vision affected by plaquenil.

Plaquinel also helps with inflammation, babesia, and makes a patient's biological terrain less favorable to lyme.

It's worth a try. Just get your daughter's eyes checked every six months, and the eye doctor will include a "vision field" test as well.

Hope that helps.

Mary

There could be a horrible herx. I never had such a bad herx till I went from clindamycin and quinine to plaqunil and biaxin, I never got past 1/2 pill of each twice a day for the 10 day period. Had another bad herx when I went back to the clindamycin and quinine. Now I am waiting about 2 days in between so I don't have 4 antibiotics in my blood at the same time. Dr. supports this.

Take it slow and easy.
