I am on Rocephin, (5 weeks now) and just developed light sensitivity with sand like feeling in both eyes. Vision has become blurred and some associated pain. Is this a Herx perhaps? Thanks for any help you can give me. It's very concerning.

Need artificial tears and wear blue blockers or UV sunglasses for that "light sensitivity".

Your body would rather you NOT convert melatonin to serotonin because melatonin is a powerful anti-oxidant.

The OTHER anti-oxidant, the MAJOR one, is kapoot.

Glutathione.

So the body is relying on high levels of melatonin to protect the cells from a LOT of oxidative stress. Too many damaging "free radicals".

Several nutrients to MAKE glutathione are missing.

However, when you intentionally block the conversion of melatonin back to serotonin (which happens at daylight) via the glasses, expect depression to happen. This is called SAD. Serotonin levels drop, melatonin stays high.

It appears the small "blue" wavelength is involved in the conversion. It appears the "red" wavelength is more beneficial for lyme, while "blue" is more beneficial for HIV (HIV patients have high bilirubin levels. Bilirubin is lowered using "blue" lights (but the eyes are protected. We put jaundiced babies under blue lights.)

Drugs or natural way to raise serotonin = Prozac or 5HTP. OR. Can NOT do both! Too much serotonin isn't good either. First sign...nausea and vomiting.

P.S. While we THINK Rocephin will work...my sis was on IV Rocephin and did develop uveitis. She came close (very) to losing her eyesight. I don't want to scare you, but to make you aware. Ultimately, after all else was tried to save her sight, she HAD to resort to steroid shots IN her eyes. It DID work. She was very reluctant because oral steroids at the outset (misdx'd) zoomed her to stage 3 lyme.

There ARE times when the "big guns" are needed...very selectively and with full knowledge of the dangers.

The light sensitivity went away with aggressive antibiotics. It will get better. [Smile]

Thanks to all of you for your imput. I have confirmed the same through my Dr. It get's scary when these thing arise, and I didn't expect them.
