The Health Benefits of Raw Eggs By John Claydon D.Hom
The process of cooking eggs destroy the very goodness that our bodies so desperately need as the nature of proteins and fats is altered when exposed to heat. When cooked, the egg protein changes its chemical shape; it is often this process that can be the cause of allergies. Generally when eating raw eggs, any incidence of egg allergy will disappear.
Surprisingly, in spite of `bad press' raw eggs, organic or at least from a known source of healthy free-range chickens, are an excellent health tonic. The regular consumption of raw eggs will do wonders for your overall health. Exceptionally easy to digest, raw eggs provide a wonderful boost to the immune system, and a completely balanced nutritional package. A good immune system is one of several things the body needs to overcome cancer.
Many people's diets are deficient in high quality proteins and fats, and eggs are one the very best sources of these. Raw eggs have many benefits, they contain essential nutrients for the brain, nerves, glands and hormones, they are nutritionally balanced, and we highly recommend the addition of raw eggs to your nutritional programme. The sulphur amino acids help to keep you young, raw eggs also contain an abundance of other vital substances including protein, essential fatty acids along with niacin, riboflavin, biotin, choline, vitamins A, D and E, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, iron, iodine, copper, zinc and sulphur. Egg yolks are one of the few foods that contain vitamin D.
Poisoning from salmonella has been exaggerated in the past. A study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2002 indicated that only 2.3 million, of the 69 billion eggs produced annually, are contaminated with salmonella. In other words 0.003% or 1 in every 30,000 eggs. The bulk of these come from battery chicken eggs and chickens kept in unhealthy conditions - only sick chickens lay salmonella contaminated eggs. If only healthy chicken eggs (organic and free range ideally) are consumed, then far less than one in 30,000 eggs are contaminated. Salmonella is a common micro-organism found almost everywhere, and is just as likely, or more likely, to proliferate on cooked food kept in the fridge. Infection is normally mild gastric symptoms, but in rare cases where the immune system is very low such in the elderly who have had much anti-biotic use, and the source is greatly contaminated, death can result. But such a person is highly lightly to contract one of many common micro-organisms and die from that. To give some perspective, in the highly unusual situation of contracting Salmonella, in a healthy person, an infection is nothing to worry about and is easily treated with high quality pro-biotics every half an hour until you feel better.
Method of Consuming Raw Eggs
From day one of starting raw eggs, your immune system becomes stronger and health will improve. We recommend Zell Oxygen as a key supplement for overall health enhancement. Three raw eggs a day (this will take the place of one meal), seems to be the preferred amount taken by people who regularly consume raw eggs. It is sensible to build up the amount of raw eggs consumed gradually. They are best taken by breaking them into a cup and swallowing whole. It can be helpful to cut through the yolk with a knife to make it easier to swallow, If you have a mental problem with swallowing raw eggs, (they are almost tasteless and easy to swallow) blend with a little goats or sheep's milk or even avocado, but ideally raw eggs should not be blended as the molecular structure is damaged. Inspect the egg, if it has been cracked do not use it, once broken into the cup or blender smell it, if it smells off do not use it.
It is best to keep eggs un-refrigerated, but in a cool place. Refrigeration can destroy the vital amino acids in raw eggs and can also disguise the distinctive smell of an egg that has gone off.
Raw Eggs and Cholesterol
There is no danger from the cholesterol build up since 2/3 of cholesterol in the body is produced by the liver. The amount of cholesterol consumed in the diet does not relate to the amount of cholesterol deposited. Many studies have shown that the cholesterol in eggs does not raise cholesterol level in the body. Furthermore, eggs contain Lecithin, a valuable nutrient that helps the body to process fats and cholesterol.
Eggs contain valuable fat needed to keep us healthy. On the other hand heated or processed fats are converted into Trans-fats - toxic chemicals that harden in the body, around every cell and clog the circulation. Margarine contains an abundance of Trans-fats and is not part of a healthy diet. Do not be afraid of that natural product that has been eaten with no adverse effects for thousands of years, butter. The initial report that cholesterol in foods leads to health problems was released to the press without scientific validation, and has since been proven by hundreds of scientists and studies around the world to be completely false. The only benefits from the initial press release were to the margarine and vegetable oil industries.
Raw Eggs and Biotin Deficiency
Nature created an egg to be a balanced live food - as long as you eat the biotin rich yolk along with the white, there is no risk of a biotin deficiency.
Quote from the book ``The Recipe for Living Without Disease'' By Aajonus Vonderplanitz
Free range (ideally from healthy chickens, including organically certified, even better are fertile eggs).
``Raw eggs are one of the best compact foods in nature. Eggs are the ultimate, complete fast food. However the protein in eggs is not utilised for cellular reproduction. They are utilised for regeneration and maintenance. The relationship between raw eggs and salmonella poisoning is a myth"
(Reference the great egg panic by Emily Green, LA R times Jan 2000)
Eggs are remarkable for everyone especially the infirm. Three years ago a medical doctor called me on a Thursday evening about her 70 yr old female patient with emphysema. She explained that her patient had been mainly bed-ridden for two years, was on 100% oxygen and respiratory machines. She prognosed that her patient would die that weekend unless I could help. I told her that the only thing I thought might help at that late stage was eggs. I recommended that she get her patient 10 dozen raw eggs, and put them on her bed table. I suggested that she ask her patient to eat one as often as she could and that there was no limit. Very early Monday morning, I received a call from the patient. She told me that she was off the machines, out of bed and feeling stronger that she had in years. She had eaten 66 eggs over the weekend.
If eggs are whipped, beaten or blended without raw milk, raw cream, or coconut cream, many of the enzymes are oxidised and lost.'' It is best to break open the egg into a cup or glass and swallow whole. Most people are repelled by this, but with a little courage it is found to be easy. There is almost no taste and the egg, even big ones are easily swallowed. Generally, I find, 3 to 4 eggs taken in the morning are an important part of my well-being programme. The cholesterol in raw eggs is not deposited in the arteries and is an essential nutrient for aiding health and well-being. The white of the egg has been said to interfere with biotin assimilation, but nature knows best by making the egg yolk very rich in biotin. The egg in its entirety is a very balanced food and only supports health and should be taken in its entirety, yolk and white together.

You can get pasteurized raw eggs now...obviously not done by heating them.
I do not know the process, but consuming unpasteurized raw eggs makes me nervous too with re: salmonella.
Still...you are right about the nutrition in raw eggs.

Okay, I love my chickens and they lay beautiful eggs.
They are free range, happy and eat a NATURAL diet.
Natural being that I have watched them eat anything that moves including but not exclusive to earthworms, crickets, frogs, baby snakes, baby MICE, things that fly, etc.
That being the case, any eggs are TOTALLY cooked well-done!
When I was a child, I use to eat raw eggs but I read somewhere that it can interfere with the absorption of some vitamins???
Anyway, don't need any parasites that may be inside these critters!

P.S.
I have never seen them eat a fly and keep a sticky fly trap near their hutch but I know that flies carry tapeworm sooooooooooo...no raw eggs for me. Posted by clairenotes (Member # 10392) on :
The salmonella issue scares me, too.

I gotta laugh...
One of the LLMD's asked me... just out of the blue one day... and they were quite serious too..
"What do you all EAT in Maryland?"
HA!
I had NO idea where that conversation was going.. and it stepped me back a bit.. and I laughed.
It turns out they couldn't understand why the Lyme patients from Maryland had a high rate of Salmonella infections compared to all the other Lyme or non-Lyme patients they had seen.
Well.. where I've lived there are a lot of chickens. We are famous for our chickens. We even have museums dedicated to our chickens.
And we border Delaware... which is famous for their eggs and chickens too.
Chicken houses are usually scattered on the eastern shore on privately owned farms which often border wooded areas... where our famous deer populations live.
Deer, chickens, woods... and add in the family dogs and cats and mice... and we have ticks with the highest rates of Lyme infection in the country???
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... can we make that leap?
I use to be a volunteer chicken baby sitter.. or more like a "mother's helper" for chickens when folks needed someone to fill in cause they were gone.
I was also a volunteer duck mommy for wildlife programs... raising ducks for release into the wild from newborn stages. What a quacking good time!
I've seen a number of chicken houses and they are normally very clean.. not crowded and usually pretty happy.
There are some though that aren't as "sweet"... so I would have to join in and say no raw eggs for me either.
Free range chickens in tick infested areas?
Nah... I'll cook mine.... but thanks anyway.

Well cooked for me, too... I've got a vicious case of persistent salmonella, actually 5 different strains of it.
2 years of abx for Lyme and co-infections and salmonella is still raging, ick.
No raw eggs here!

I've eaten rice w/raw eggs and soy sauce for years.
It's a Japanese dish I grew up on.
I haven't gotten sick yet...but I guess that doesn't mean I won't one day!
I know one thing though, I won't stop eating my egg rice!

I have always believed in the goodness of the egg. Like others here I am squemish about eating the egg raw.
However, when I was pregnant with my first child, I craved raw eggs and ate some almost every day. I had a very healthy pregnancy and baby.
Darn it for me, the ALCAT food allergy test showed me to be highly allergic to egg whites. Now not only do I no longer get to eat eggs, but I have to avoid anything with egg whites in it.
I miss my eggs! A veterinarian recently told me about N.A.E.T. as a way to cure food allergies.
Anyone have any experience with it? I sure would like to eat eggs again.

There are different types of allergies: one brought about by the ANS; one immunological; one, believe it or not, emotional; and one as a biochemical consequence.
I did NAET - it is not a lasting treatment if the above is not taken into consideration. Knowing no better, I spent a little fortune directly with Devi N. and it did nothing but chase neurotoxins into may brain instead of the opposite. NAET gave me the brainfog of all brainfogs that took me years to get out of. I went there with seemingly a few allergies - I came out as a drunk unable to function after a few weeks of treatment.
NAET is the wrong thing to do if you have a heavy metal problem. The metals move during the treatment! Often the wrong way. And you are still left with allergies afterward.
Possibly look at/research LED by Dr. L.C.
Take care.

A raw egg beaten into a shot of red wine with some sweet is an oldfashioned German/European elixir for the really sick. The bit of alcohol moves the best of the egg right into where it is needed! Choline - brain.
Take care.

Luvs -- when my daughter was little and had many inexplicable allergies, we went to a person who specialized in NAET. After $500 spent (10 sessions) we still had to keep her off of the foods which she was allergic to. When I mentioned this several months back, a few others on this forum also wrote and said they felt no difference from treatment.
By a strange turn of events too long to explain, we went to see another NAET practitioner. Chicken (includes eggs, feathers, anti-biotics fed to the chickens, etc) was the first major offending allergen identified. Ergot, a mold that can grow on wheat was another. After each session, my daughter appeared stronger and healthier, with much more energy. Though it has only been six weeks, her energy is still strong.
One thing that I have noticed is that I am able to eat many more things as I progress with my own treatment and the only thing I have done is kill microbes. Therefore, I have not stopped this aspect of my daughter's treatment.
I don't doubt Gigi's experience or information. A practitioner whom I have a lot of respect for insists that emotions are a main cause of allergies. I believe that there can be one or more factors involved and we continue to pursue other treatments, which may include LED.

Wallace,
Has this helped you? I would like to try this sometime. A boiled egg made me dizzy the other day of course I hadn't had one in years.
Do raw eggs naturally have the transfer factor or do companies have to inject that?
Raw foods are better for you because of the enzymes that they provide.

Wallace,
I've heard of all the benefits of raw eggs. Cooking them changes them.
My husband is a chiropractor and a body-builder. He's REALLY into health and he's been eating raw eggs forever. So far he's healthy! No salmonella!
I'd do it too if I could get past the texture!

I dont get the energy buzz I should get from eating raw eggs which simply illustrates it has to be part of a total program. It is not a cure all unfortunately.
I have a problem eating cooked eggs but not raw eggs so raw is good here! Go on try it!

I think I'm turned off to raw eggs for life.
My husband mixes them in raw oatmeal, and sometimes protein shakes.
He can eat ANYTHING. If they discovered dirt was healthy to eat the man would eat it!
I've learned to eat many "healthy" things and they often taste terrible, but my husband has really grossed me out on the raw eggs/raw oatmeal combination.
But...If I don't start feeling better, I may just try anything!!

Hey Wallace, great post and right on..
In the 50's my sister and I went to movies(25 cents) on Hollywood blvd. Saw the first 3D Cinerama. The roller coaster movie made you sick it was so real.
There was a franchise fruit drinks stand called Orange Julius. They made an large drink with orange juice and raw eggs that was fantastic. It cost about $.50. Drink one of those and you would not be hungry for hours...
We eat eggs every day. Cooked, because they are store bought. Wish we could buy fresh farm eggs..
A weak immune system will kill you, usually caused by junk foods and low natural fat diets.
Oh, your are right. Cholesterol is made and regulated only by your liver. Mess with your cholesterol levels damage your liver with statins and die, usually by cancer..

I love raw eggs and ate them until I learned that for some folks a salmonella infection will trigger a debilitating and PROGRESSIVE FORM OF ARTHRITIS.
You don't know if you're one of those folks until it is too late.
I miss eating raw eggs for the taste and nutritional value. However, developing a progressive form of arthritis is too great of a risk. Its like playing Russian Roulette.

You can also safely use eggs that are pasteurized in the shell in recipes that call for raw eggs. Pasteurized eggs may be found in the refrigerator section of your local supermarket and are labeled ``pasteurized.''
Eggs from free-range chickens are a balanced food which have mistakenly been considered the culprits of excessively high cholesterol levels.
They contain cholesterol, but this is emulsified by the lecithin they also contain.
Lecithin enables fats, including cholesterol, to be dispersed in water and eliminated from the body.
Eggs are an excellent source of protein, sulfur, iron and vitamin A, and provide a valuable source of vitamin B12 for people who do not eat meat.
In addition, eggs contain choline, tryptophan (which is converted into vitamin B3), biotin, folic acid, vitamin B2, vitamin B1, vitamin B5, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium.
Eggs from free-range chickens have bright yellow-orange yolks and thick, strong shells and a better flavor than commercial eggs produced on factory farms.
In addition, caged chickens and their eggs produce much lower levels of the beneficial omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids than free-range chickens.
A lot to be said for raw eggs..IF pasteurized to prevent salmonella (another DNA attaching pathogen)...I'm trying to find out HOW they do that...
Posted by GiGi (Member # 259) on :
It pays to know where your eggs come from.
A study that came out a couple years ago showed that non-organic chickcen contains so much arsenic that when eating that for 5 years, a child has unallowable levels of arsenic in their system, beyond the EPA standard with what is okay and compatible with health. One chicken eaten in the first couple of years of life can for 5 years give an arsenic level in the system that is unallowable.
It is suspected that the pasteurization of dairy is causing so many people to be allergic to dairy. I am not sure what's left in food value in a pasteurized egg. And I do not believe pasteurization eliminates the heavy metals. Eggs used to be so good for detoxing because of the high affinity that sulfhydril groups have in eggs. What makes eggs smell like eggs is sulfhydril, the same component as in DMSA or DMPS. So they bind in a natural environment from the way they are fed, from the chicken feed -- and knowing that the level of arsenic content is high in some chicken --- makes eggs not so spectacular any longer. (I eat them anyhow and continue my lifelong detoxification program - a bit of chlorella after eating fish or eggs goes a long way).
The old elixir I was talking about above contained wine! Probably because we didn't have Vodka. Raw egg jokes combined with vodka and a little sugar. The sugar takes it straight to the brain and so does vodka as a vaso-dilating agent. That's also an old Russian recipe for detox.
There is a great study on the people that survived Chernobyl - the people that had the egg-vodka mix were the survivors. There were two groups. The ones who were injected with DMPS that survived; the alcoholics survived because alcohol induces these enzymes for the liver to detox; and the egg yoke eating people survived. Most everybody else got leukemia and died.
Take care.
P.S. Did you know that foods which are very often allergenic like wheat, and the antigens which are gluten and gliadin, are very rich in SH (sulfhydril) groups. Swedish research: these foods may be very often polluted with metals due to rich use of phosphate fertilizers; wheat from certain countries are so polluted by Cadmium that it cannot be used for selling and making bread. There may be a connection between foods which have a lot of SH groups and development of allergy (and probably allergy to metals.)

I agree with Gigi.
I know we dont want to get more sick but pasteurising raw milk and eggs just kills any potential value in the food. See www.rawmilk.org
A bacteria free environment equals death. Our immune systems need to be challenged by nutritious foods not junk food!
Children brought up in farms are more healthy because of this as proved by studies.

Orange juice is now pasteurized using CO2...yes...carbon dioxide, not heat (which does destroy nutrients).
