On my 2nd visit to an LLMD, I was told to take Vitamin C, initially 4,000 mg. a day, but increasing daily by 1,000 mgs, gradually going up to around 14,000 mgs a day. My herbalist and others tell me this is not good, that it can result in kidney damage and other problems. Would appreciate hearing from others about this. (I've only had LD about a year, and have been on abx almost the entire time.) Thanks much! - Friend PAM

I know during a herx, my LLMD suggests that I raise my vitamin C intake up to as high as 10,000mg.

However, that is only during a herx.....

I googled vitamin C and overdose....Here's what it said:

Vitamin C is water soluable and regularly excreted by the body.

More than 200mg daily can cause diarrhea, gas or stomach upsets

And may increase risk of developing kidney stones.

Vitamin C, at large amounts, can deplete the body of copper and increases the absorption of iron.

I would definitely make sure I was drinking tons of water on high doses of vitamin C.

Hope this helps.

Hugs,

Geneal

Thanks to Geneal for doing the google search!

Also, after I posted my concern, I spoke with a friend in VT who said that her doctor recommended taking mega doses of Vitamin C, as well, and she notices she feels a lot better when she does. So I guess I'll risk the kidney stones! (They're no fun, so I hope it's not a huge risk. [Smile]

My doctor has me taking 6000 mg of Vitamin C a day. He wants me up to 12000 mg, but I get diarhea above 6000.

Take it split up, since your body can't absorb it all at once. And gradually increase, so you know if you get bowel intolerance at a certain level.

The other option is IV Vitamin C.
