3 weeks after completing 30 days of doxy I developed bad diarrhea (sorry for the bluntness) and have had it for 4 months now. Total weight loss: 20 pounds. GI can't find anything wrong with me (negative colonoscopy, CT scan, stool tests, etc..). Anyone else have similar experience or have diarrhea as a lyme symptom?

Are you taking any supplements? Large doses of magnesium or vitamin c can cause diarhea.
What other meds are you taking, if any?
Do you have an LLMD? Many LLMDs know to look for lesser known infections or use different labs. It could be a bacteria or a parasite or yeast. All require different forms of treatment.

hey Stoli
Sorry to hear about your diarrhea.
Are you taking good pro-biotics? This is very important. Did your doc test you for c-diff?
Hope your can feel better soon

Were you tested for C. difficile? If not, get tested.

You might want to check into Destroxin. It does wonders for diarrhea. I posted about it a few months ago and I think I posted the portion of a publication on Zeolite that discusses this problem. Destroxin contains zeolite.
Take care.

Diarrhea can be a lyme symptom but more likely it is from abx and your gut flora being out of balance.
My mom had diarrhea for 10 years and no one could solve the problem. When I heard about it I put her on probiotics. After a few months, the diarrhea was gone and has never come back. I'm sure it was from taking antibiotics and not knowing about probiotics. She was a nurse and this is not something that they were ever told about. Now my pharmacy mentioned it to me when they filled my abx prescription.
Theralac is a very good brand and worth the money.
I would get tested for c.difficile toxins A & B and make sure you test 3 days in a row. Don't just do a single stool sample, and make sure it is liquid!

also have food allergy testing for gluten....wheat, rye, oats, barley and casein-all dairy products
i was dx last yr. with both after having constant diarrhea for 30-35 years!! guess, you could call me a $hitty kid! Posted by oyvey (Member # 11581) on :
In addition to all those good suggestions you may want to consider that constant diarrhea can be a red flag for Bartonella. The co-infection can cause severe digestive disease and weight loss and GI tests show nothing.
Have you ever been tested for Bart?

Thank you for all the advise. I was recently tested for the co-infections, but not until 4 months after my initial 30 day abx treatment (ID said co-infections are uncommon in NJ!). I won't get the results until Thursday.

I had it so bad that I would occasionally have it without realizing it had happened!!! Talk about mortified!
It resolved completely after the second round of treatment for babesia WA-1.
I too had all the tests, fecal occult, colonoscopy, etc.
LLMD believed it was autonomic dysfunction.
Yes, apparently there is a brain-butt connection!!!
Try treating for babesia whether you test positive or not. (And by the way, any doctor who thinks co-infections are rare in NJ needs to do some serious reading.)

Protonix has completely eradicated mine. I wish you all the best.

Are you taking any herbs or supplements? I had bad diarhea that was worsened by taking Burbur, an herb for detox.
My stool is still loose, and I realize it's because of the magnesium and vitamin C I take. If I forget just one of my doses, then the next day I'm firmer.
