Is every patient with Lyme has high cholesterol?

Anybody here with normal or low LDL cholesterol?

I have had lyme over 7 yrs. and it has only been in the last year that my LDL cholesterol has gone up some. A toxic liver (eg. from years of filtering meds and the Bb toxins) has been said by some to cause elevated cholesterol, so I'm working on detox (juice fasts, milk thistle, dandelion herbs, etc.) My good HDL is high probably due to the good dietary fats I use--walnuts, olive oil, fish oil, flax seed, etc.

This is interesting. I've also heard that your colestrol goes up with lyme. Mine has always been low. I had a blood check last week and it will be interesting to see if it has gone up. Will post later when I know.

[Roll Eyes]
My 'bad' cholesterol went up and the 'good' cholesterol went down!!! I'm now taking Zetia and it's helping with both and without any side effects.

I have read ... search Marnie's posts ... that the Bb damage the lining of the circulation systems (arteries, lymph) and therefore the body needs more LDL to try to repair the damage.

As I understand it, the LDL being up is not the problem. The damage that requires the LDL to be up is the problem.

Kind of in the same way the low oil light on the dash isn't the trouble. The trouble is the engine needs oil!

Another thing that seems to be happening for me is that since my body is using the cholesterol to fight this damage to the lining of my circulation systems, it seems like it doesn't have enough left over to buid all the hormones (progesterone, estrogen, etc.). I am supplementing with a small amount (30 mg/day) of pregnenolone. Pregnenolone is the precursor to all the other hormones.

Yup, I had very high cholesterol and was diagnosed with it at age 19.

For me, I think the lyme hit my thyroid gland, thus an increase in cholesterol.

I eat all the good fats too and still have very low HDL....it's genetic in my family. Nuts help a little bit, but it is still too low.

My LDL did not go up until I'd had Lyme for a few years. Then it soared from 117 up to 207.

With Samento, I've gotten it down to 151, which is still too high, but I don't want it much lower, since as someone pointed out, my body raised it to try to help me.

I take plenty of antioxidants to help keep the LDL from oxidizing, which is the only real danger from high LDL, IMO.

I also take Pregnenolone, but at a dosage of just 10 mgs. twice weekly, because any higher dose raises my estrogen enough to bring back my premenopausal migraines.

I get from all the responses that there is almost no Lyme patients with low LDL cholesterol.

Is cholesterol high also in CHILDREN?

Total: 200

Triglycerides 100
HDL 70
LDL 110

triglycerides dropped from pre-lyme level.
HDL increased
LDL about the same.
Total was about the same, though.

I figure it was the better diet.

Hi,
anyone considering going on Statin drugs to lower cholesterol better read up on not only Statin drugs, but also on the very complex subject matter of cholesterol itself.
There is a growing number of health care professionals out there who are convinced that it is dangerous to lower cholesterol and that the pharma industrie has been speading a huge lie about the role of cholesterol in heart disease just to sell their products. I won`t name names here, everyone in this forum knows how to use the internet. Kathi

I have "better than average" numbers.

Total 191
HDL 75
LDL 108
Triglycerides 40

Good news for me as heart disease runs in my family

My results from 5/24/07:

CHOLESTEROL 150
TRIGLYCERIDE 158
HDL 47
LDL, CALC. 71
HOURS FASTING 12

I've always had low cholesterol, 150 is the lowest for me.

When my kids were 1st diagnosed after years of being ill, they were over 200.
