How many people have used Larium and Zithromax as treatment to kill Babesia? Has this combo worked for you?

Two weeks I began taking Larium 125 mg (1/2 pill, working up to 1-250 mg pill), with treatment expected to take 5-6 months. I'm also taking Rocephin, Zithromax and Flagyl.

After two weeks of the Larium I'm beginning to wonder if it will work for me. I'm having terrible insomnia (4 hrs sleep a night-can't get back to sleep when waken at 4 AM even with a double dose of Lunesta sleeping meds). Have also been feeling much more irritable (might be lack of sleep).

I've read the Larium warnings and am concerned that I might have the beginnings of a psychotic reaction.

What has worked for others if I have to give up the Larium and use another treatment protocol?

Thanks for any input- I really value the experience of those on this forum.

I took larium for months, and the only thing it did was give me wicked psych symptoms.

A few months ago my new llmd added septra into the mix of biaxin, art, mepron 4tsp a day, and IM bicillin, and this combo has really eradicated all my symptoms. I am hoping to pulse down these meds and see if I remain symptom free.

I know some people who believe larium helped them, but I think several months of good old mepron is the best.

Just a personal opinion.

Good luck with treatment and feel better.

In studying up on babs, I find two treatment protocols. Larium never came up.

The original combo was quinine and clindamycin which was supposed to elicit side effects in a majority of people.

The more recent combo is mephron (Atovaquone) and azithromycin which is supposed to be just as effective but with only a small % of people experiencing side effects.

I don't yet know how my doctor will treat.

There are a few people on lariam, I can't tell you if it works or not. The start is very hard, but the side effects should subside after a while.
