I'm sure I got a tick from my dogs. At the time (last Summer) when I got bit we were being stupid. We weren't keeping up with their tick treatment. I wasn't too worried about it. How naive I was!!!
I don't blame my dogs. At first I was wondering if I would be going through this had I not had dogs. I try not to put too much thought into it because what's done is done.

I know one person who definitely got a tick bite and lyme from a tick off her cat. It was an outdoor cat that used to come and sit on her lap....and she got a tick bite and bulls-eye rash on her stomach. No more lap-sitting outdoors cats after that.

I'm pretty sure I got lyme disease from my cat after he got out of the house one day and went missing.
He is an indoor cat so I didnt keep regular flea and tick preventitive on him because he was never outside. I put it on him monthly now. I probably should get rid of him!

I really ****ed my mom off recently when I suggested the tick that bit me probably came from one of the dogs.
But you know what, I wouldn't have given up growing up in a house with animals. And my current cats have done so much to help me through this ordeal.
When my hands were in constant, burning pain, the only thing I could touch that would feel good were my cats. They were the only things I could touch that wasn't painful.
They are indoor, but that's because I live in a city.

My doctor thinks I contracted Lyme from a tick crawling around a patient and on to me. I am a vet tech. I think this puts you at risk, but if you use the proper medications to prevent fleas and ticks, and try to keep your cats inside.
The best product to use for dogs is K( advantix. It is a topical medication. It kills fleas and ticks, and repells mosquitos.
All the tick has to do is contact the pets fur and they become paralyzed and die.
Apply the K9 advantix medicine every 3 weeks in heavy tick season.
When you use frontline the tick has to bite and feed on the pet for up to 2 days before it will die. It is the best product for ticks to use on cats. K9 advantix is not safe for cats,and forget any hartz products!

I think it does. I haven't had a pet for a long time now [for other reasons], but when I think about getting one in the future, it worries me.
I don't think either of us could tolerate an indoor cat due to allergies. It scares me to think about having to deal with ticks and fleas again. Our pet of choice would be a dog.

When I got my bullseye rashes (1992)I was walking my dogs in the metroparks, off leash, along the river in weeds up to my neck. I did this several times per week wearing shorts. My dogs also sleep in bed with me.
I don't know whether it was off the dog or off the weeds. Either way, if I didn't have dogs I wouldn't be in the woods. I wouldn't give them up for the world though.
I still walk in the woods with my dog. I am just more careful. Instead of wearing shorts, I wear sweatpants and rubber boots up to my knees.

i live in new york city and have two indoor cats. i can say without a doubt that they have sped up my healing tremendously. i wouldn't know what to do without them.

I am sure pets drop ticks or tick eggs in the house and one female can lay an incredible amount of eggs. Fleas carry bart.
The last place I rented for 11 months I saw a very small deer tick crawling on top of my desk. At the time I had no idea it was a tick until I saw photos months later. I bet my the last person that lived there had had a cat or a dog because I had no pets.
