I am looking for any suggestions for an anti-inflammatory that does not contain NSAIDS or steroids .... is there such a thing??

I know we arent suspose to take anything with steroid in it. and I once had an allergic reaction to naproxin. My feet swelled up like an elephant. So I have been labled with my PCP with an allergy to NSAIDS (ibuprofen)

Here is the issue. I have extreme pain in my feet and legs, and some pain in my hands. I know some of it is nerve pain, I am on neurontin and it helps a little. But I can hardly walk on my feet. They feel like my bones are broken.

I think it is arthritis, because it hurts worse when I first stand to walk after sitting down and I have pain in my hands too.

Any suggestions?? I am also on percocet and that doesnt even help anymore.

I feel like I am 80 years old, and I am only 42.

Please give me some suggestions. [Frown]

Sandra,
How much neurotin are you on?? I "USED" to take that with GOOD results and I know you are allowed to take a ton of it. Maybe get your neurotin increased, if you can.

If not take something else with it,,,like I took Tramadol and its pretty safe.(and cheap)And or some tylenol also!!

Do what ever you have to to get relief,,,even consider a 'pain manangement' specalist!! Hope this all works out for you!!being--just don--

saly,

Check out my thread about microcurrent.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=055992

This is working wonders for me. If you go to the website of the doctor that developed this, there is a section to find practioners in your area.

www.frequencyspecific.com

This not only helps with pain (FDA approved and particularly good for muscle and nerve pain) but also triggers the body's healing at the cellular level.

don: I am on 300mg three times a day. I do think that it helps some, but only a little.

What is tramadol? is that a different nerve pain med? or an anti inflammatory?

I just called the DR and cant get in until Thursday. I think I will just call him and see if I can increase the neurontin.

THanks for your reply

Try the original mangosteen supplement:

Dr James Duke's research on the mangosteen:
http://sun.ars-grin.gov:8080/npgspub/xsql/duke/pl_act.xsql?taxon=1228

It's the best anti-inflammatory I know of!

I was thinking my doc said I needed 1800-or was that 2400 mg a day to see if it worked on the Neurotin.your 900 seems lioke a drop in the bucket. Its been so long ago I forget,,,course yesterday I may forget too.

I agree on the Mangosteen juice too. You can try that and see how it works for YOU!!! have heard tons of good reponses and fully functional people ON it and total basket cases OFF of it!!

The tramadol is a non-narcotic pain killer aka known as "Ultram",,,that worked for me the best!! Course I am more than strange in ALOT of ways!!! later as--just don--

If it's arthritis pain, some people have great results with Plaquenil. It's an antimalarial drug that has been found to reduce symptoms in people with RA. It helps my hand pain.

If it is not nerve pain, then narcotic pain killres may be an answer. If you take them because you have real pain, the risk of addiction is very small. I've been on Vicodin for 3 years, and I haven't had one yet today and I'm perfectly chipper.

Many doctors don't really understand pain killers and addiction. It's like trying to find an LLMD. But don't be scared of something that might really be your answer to pain.

Hi Salydega

Here's a link on natural anti-inflammatory suggestions:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=051847

Here's another link:

http://www.thedietchannel.com/natural-health-tips-to-reduce-pain-from-inflammation.htm

here's some natural things that I have read may help with inflammation:

*mangosteen juice
*turmeric/curcumin...an indian spice like curry
*ginger
*Zyflamend & IFamMed(natural supp)
*cherries...the black ones in particular
*fish oil capsules/omega 3..
*crushed or milled flaz seeds are high in omega 3
*vit C powder
*the herb resveratrol
*bromelain and or both Quercetin...

Although some of the links deal with arthritis ~ I think some of their anti-inflammatory tips are helpful:
http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/12-21-2005-84548.asp

Hope this helps [Smile]
Dana

Make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD...none of the above is medical advise...just my 2 cents

Oxycodone? For reasons BESIDES pain relief!

Very good article discussing pain relief...

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/06/19/health/webmd/main2953950.shtml

When not as severe...Bufferin (Mg + ASA).

I had a chinese herbalist tell me that opiods could actually begin to make the pain worse over time. I had to use percoset in the past for relentless pain (after trying tons of other alternatives) and I hated having to do it, but it helped me to continue to function and work.

In the long run, I came to find that in my case, the herbalist was right. The percoset stopped working after time, not because I needed more, but because it was creating pain itself.

I hope you can find someone who can help you to try and lower your dose of percoset over time while giving your body support to do it.

Others have already given wonderful ideas for alternative pain rememdies.

Sore feet can mean Bartonella....

Hope you can find the relief and support that you need.

Robin

The photon stimulator is excellent technology for inflammation. It uses near infrared light.

Go to CTI-net.com for more info if interested.

I had some nasty muscle and joint pain with lyme etc. It turned out that a fair amount of this may have been caused by, or at least exacerbated by, babesiosis, a coinfection ticks somnetimes carry along with lyme. So that's something to consider. As far as dealing with and minimizing the poain, one non drug therapy that helped the pain but sometimes caused some other issues (but still was extremely worth it) was sauna, and other sources of heat- these might be worth esperimenting with.

Also, certain sulfates supplements-- 'nutrijoint' and'nutrajoint' evidently had an effect on the pain (can't say totally for sure, of course, with all the meds and pathogens loose in my body at that rime...). Gingko Biloba also seemed to help. Willow bark helped, but shouldn't be taken if you are allergic to aspirin, as it has some similar compounds in it.

Getting enough sleep helped, on the occasions I managed that.

I hope you find some solutions!

Hi Sandra,
I feel for you, so sorry your feet hurt so badly. I have had tons of nueropathy and a part of that was I felt like I was walking on thumbtacks, it was awful. The only thing that helped was treatment with Amoxicillin/Biaxin for LD.

You have had your blood sugar tested for diabetes? This can be a symptom.

I recently started a thread about pain and the immune system, it is important to get the pain under control, do you have a good pain management doctor, here is my thread below you might find interesting, also what about Ultram? I have a friend with LD that swears by it. Also the newer improved "sister" drug to nuerontin, Lyrica? Also, my LLMD always prescribes Elavil, many people swear by it.

Also, I found this link by googling, alternatives to NSAIDS: http://www.manyhands.com/articles/story.cfm?id_no=120100342005

Here is another link to check out: http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=056244

Hope you feel better.

I'm in a similar situation: no steroids, and I have very bad reactions to some NSAIDs, especially tylenol.

After years of trying many things, I've found a few that help. Avoiding vitamin D from diet and light exposure has reduced my inflammation. Benicar also helps me some. For pain, Tramadol/Ultram helps, especially with joint pain.

Ibuprofen and acetomenophen....work differently.

The first is better.

Research curcumin...

Add bioperine to potentiate.

Check for interactions with any drug you are currently on!!!

Herbalists...heads up!!!

I just started Ultram a few weeks ago, and it's like a miracle drug for me. It takes away about 90% of my pain and does not cause drowsiness like the Percocet does. Also, it's non habit forming.

Have you tried biofeedback. I worked with a pain psychologist to use biofeedback not for pain, but to be able to handle noise and stimuli. It had really made a difference. Hiker

Mangosteen juice looks really expensive. How much of it do you need to drink for it to really help? Also I see it is sold in pill form which seems much cheaper, does help too ?
