my husband is having abdominal hernia surgery on tuesday. can't do laproscopic.
how will this affect lyme?

I have had several surgeries in the past few years. I noticed my pain levels were up, and so was fatigue.
I'm not sure how many meds your husband has been on, but my body seems to build a tolerance quickly.
with my first surgery they hardly had to give me any of that sedative (can't remember the name), they give you in your IV right before surgery.... by my 4th surgery, it took 4 doses of it!
first time, I was out like a light. second time I remember going to the OR, third and 4th times, wide awake until they put the mask over my face.
Just make sure he gets good rest before the surgery. and is able to have some "down" time afterwards

I had outpatient surgery about a year after I was dx and was very nervous about it.
Turns out that, for me, it wasn't a very big deal, nor was recovery longer than the doctor had originally suggested (just a day or so).
I wish your husband similar success!

i've had chronic lyme since age 21, 1970;
had 11-12 surgeries since that time BEFORE lyme correctly diagnosed
EACH had many complications! make sure hubby has pain control machine where he can punch it every time he needs it; helped me tremendously.

he has not had any surgeries since vietnam, oh about 1975 or so.
even tho i strongly suspect lyme due to memory, vision problems, he won't even mention lyme. doesn't believe in it.
he'll come through it ok i'm sure, but i can't help but be concerned.
well that, and the money. right now he has not received a retirement check yet so this is scary. all we have is my retirement and that is not much.
more stress...........

I had sinus surgery back in Feb and it did cause a slight relapse of my lyme symptoms.
Thankfully, someone on lymenet informed me that anestesia(sp?) has steriods in it, so I asked the doc not to use it. He was able to give me meds that knocked me out, without the worry of pumping steriods into my body.
