My brother in law has had what I think are TBD related symptoms for months beginning with a rash on his ankle that sure sounded like an EM.

I had advised him to go to an LLMD but of course he went to his pmd who told him it wasn't an em and he went on his merry way.

Of course he hasn't been feeling well, tired, achey...culminating with a fever of 102 degrees prompting another trip to the same PMD.

Gotta give the PMD some credit he believes that he has a TBD, sent blood to quest and gave him a script for doxy 100 twice a day for a week with two refills. If the test comes back positive he is to refill it otherwise just stop. That's where He loses the credit I just gave him.

What he has tested him for I'm not sure. He has been on the doxy a day or two and now he has developed a rash that evidently is disseminating over his body described as round about the size of a quarter, not itchy.

He doesn't think that he has an allergy to doxy, was treated for lyme 10 to 15 years ago and was on it then. Allergies can pop up at any point though. I have advised him to contact his Dr and of course to make an appointment with an LLMD.

Is anyone familiar with this kind of rash. Could it be erlichia, rocky mountain spotted fever, bartonella, or a lyme rash assumming that is if it's not an allergy to the doxy.

Thanks for your in put.

If it looks like his original rash it could be a herx raction. My LLMD told me when I had a rash last week that you should not develop and new

rashes when you are on treatment unless you are either allergic to the medication or the rash is similar to your original EM rash.

My rash was caused by an allergic reaction to Biaxin and spread throughout my body, did not itch, and looked like pink spots.

I also developed new allergies to medications since having Lyme disease that I did not previously have.

Hope this helps,
LuLu

I would call the doctor about the rash...

Maybe stop taking the doxy until then.

You can develop an allergy to medicines that you never have had before

At any time In your life.

BTW, 200mg of doxy will not cross the brain/blood barrier.

It needs to be at least 300mg a day.

Better safe than sorry.

Hugs,

Geneal

And won't kill out the spirochetes either.

Look through Treepatrol's links for pictures of rashes. It COULD be from a herx.....but if there's any chance it could be an allergy, he needs to call the dr.

I predict the dr will say, OH, OK...just stop the med. End of treatment.

I was recently diagnosed with Lyme and mine presented with multiple erythemia migrans all over my body, in addition to the bullseye rash on my foot at the site of the tick bite.
