i just started doxy this morning after being on amoxicillin for three weeks. this evening i have noticed a red, itchy rash in between my ring finger and little finger on my right hand.
it almost feels blistered and is about the size of a silver dollar covering the web between the fingers, and half of both fingers on top and sides.
is this an allergic reaction? the only other thing i've noticed after taking the doxy this evening is that it made me extremely tired.

Doesn't sound like an allergic reaction to me. It may just be a bit of a Lyme rash coming out. You'll probably have more. My hubby had a lot of rashes.

Did you go out in the sun at all? Even just in the car driving? Doxycycline causes extreme sun sensitivity. Granted, this would be awfully fast for you to have sun sensitivity, since you just started.
But I had the "Doxycycline knuckles" from driving and the sun coming in the car. And even with sunblock, hat, gloves, etc., I burned terribly on my face and neck.

no sun exposure, or very little today. i was too tired and not feeling that well. so i don't think sun was involved. funny thing is it almost feels like a burn. if i run my fingers across the red area, it hurts like it was burnt.
it also itches from time to time. funny and weird. i gave the doc a call to see what they think. i would think a reaction to doxy would be more systemic than localized to a very small area.

I was going to ask the sun exposure question too.
I once, while driving in the car for an hour,
Got so sunburned on my left hand.
Hurt and itched.
Aloe vera gel really helped with that.
Even if I were not directly in the sun, just sitting in the shade on a hot day,
I would feel like my skin was on fire.

My husband and I both have gotten red itchy knuckles, we think it's due to sun exposure.
He thinks he rubs off his sunscreen everytime he puts his hand in his pocket to get keys or wallet.
I'm wearing shirts with sleeves that cover my hands when I'm in the sun.
We wear gloves when bird-watching.
I had a localized rash like yours before treatment, plus the knuckle on that finger ached - could you be having a local herx there?

Stay out of the sun ware long sleeves,sunblock and use really good sunblocker sunglasses.

thanks for the posts everyone. i still have the rash there, but getting better. still itches from time to time. and yes, i've noticed some like arthritis pain in the knuckles, so i'm not too sure what it is.
i have been very careful about my sun exposure, so don't think it's related to that.

Its the sun. You only need a few minutes of exposure.
Use zinc oxide (it will dry it out and heal it) and wear gloves. I have white surgical gloves to drive with the fingers cut out.
I did it once...the blisters and the redness on the knuckles and fingers, healed it, and stupidly did it again walking the dog when I forgot my gloves (Oh, but I'll only be 5 minutes!)
Burth myself complete with itchy blisters from my knuckles up to my middle finger joints.
You can bet I cover my arms and hands all the time, use zinc oxide (You CAN burn through sunscreen. You will not burn through zinc), and wear floppy hats. I look like a freak but my hands have healed completely!!
