Hello, This is my first post here. I'm looking for some input from others on this... I have been taking amoxicillin for 2 weeks. I was bitten 4 weeks ago. Just recently I have had bad pain in my joints and my hair has been falling out more than usual. I called my Dr and he said to switch to Doxycycline because I shouldn't be having those symptoms while on an antibiotic. I am wondering if it just means the antibiotic is working??
I don't want to switch to Doxy because I am breastfeeding and it is not good for babies and small children. I also can't go out in the sun, which is going to be difficult. So I am wondering - is my Dr. being overly cautious - should I finish my amoxil or should I switch??? What would you do?

Don't know if it's herx or not, but don't take doxy while breastfeeding, it will
damage your baby's teeth. Hope someone will come along with some advice.

If I were you I would I would switch to herbs. They are much safer in YOUR condition. However you have to be careful with some herbs also IF pregnant. Not sure on the breastfeeding bit. You may want to NOT breastfeed anyway, IF you have Lyme. THAT is NOT recommended for sure as the ketes can be in your milk too.
SO what is "normally" better for the baby, NOW is NOT.
Get Stephen Buhners book, "Healing Lyme" Naturally; and read up and maybe follow his Protocols. I did and am much better off than when I was on abx.

Everything I have read says that Lymes cannot be passed to your baby through breastmilk. Is this something new that has been discovered??

Yes, it sounds like a herx....Your dr has no clue.
Do a search here for amoxi breastfeeding (and such).
CaliforniaLyme (or is it CaLyme?) was pregnant and nursed while on amoxy, as did others. Try to get their names and pm them.
Also, there is a Dr C in Connecticut. Maybe someone can pm her contact information, as he is a pediatric lyme specialist.
The jury is out on the breastfeeding as a method of transmission. Those on abx seem to feel the abx was preventative.
JimBob, I caution you to delete your post as you are treading in dangerous territory.
First, the poster did NOT ask about herbals. Your posting did not have anything to do with HER concerns, no matter what your train of thought was.
Secondly, JB, you are suggesting a course of treatment for a mother and nursing infant, none of which you know about, including the effects of these herbs on a developing child. And without knowledge of her medical condition, status of co-infections, etc. This is dangerous for you and for the mother and for her child. There is another innocent life involved, so one must be extremely cautious.
"There is no evidence that a breastfeeding mother with Lyme disease can pass it to her child, but she is usually recommended to stop nursing for the duration of the treatment."
I'm not sure I agree with either statement.
