Does anyone know if there is a correlation between an EBV positive test and Lyme. I am just trying to figure out my possible relapse of Lyme disease.
Back in January I had a positive EBV test and the numbers were off the charts. I didn't test positive for Mono, just EBV. I don't know much about EBV and didn't really think anything about it until my newly positive Lyme PCR test.
Here were the results of the EBV bloodwork (the normal range for all four counts is 0-99:
EBV Ab VCA,IgM - 135
EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG - 208
EBV Ab VCA, IgG - 3044
EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG - 1155

When I first had a Western Blot done, my EBV titers were through the roof.
Just tested again a couple of months ago and EBV is borderline, but CMV titers were
Too high for the lab to read.
Lyme depresses the immune system. Allows infections that our immune system
Has been basically "holding in check" to become active as the immune system is not working at it's best.
My LLMD is hoping if we can get a handle on the Lyme, my body will step forward and take
Care of the other infections.
Of course, this is just my humble opinion....and my LLMD's.
It does make sense to me though.

MY EBV titers were so high in 1988 that they indicated that only someone with hodgkins disease or aids could have these sky high titers. At that time, being in my early 20's I panicked and with my ocd believed I had aids. Too afraid to test blood, I was convinced I went to a doctor or stepped on a needle and had aids. In 2002, it came to a head when my lyme was discovered. If lyme was heard of in 1988, I might not be in this hell I live in today. I have neuro lyme which has like everyone on this board has caused symptoms from everything from a virus, to mono, to ...but the truth is, living in the Bronx, no one suspected lyme back in 1988. I think EBV and lyme are one in the same. I knew back then something was wrong, but no one put their finger on it till over 14 years later. Hope you figure out, but with your ebv titers, if they're that high, I suspect you've been infected also. Check for co-infections?

Per my LLNP, lyme can cause a reactivation of other diseases, like EBV (they are *not* the same thing, EBV is a virus, Lyme a bacterium, but may well be part of the same disease picture).
I, too, have periodically sky-high EBV levels. Valtrex helped me a lot with that.
I'm fairly convinced that Bb is only part of our illness picture.

I was recently tested for HHV-6, EBV and other viruses. It looks like my viral titres are high as well.
Dr. Montoya, a wonderful doctor at Stanford University Medical Center recently had success treating people with high titres for HHV-6 and EBV with Valcyte. 9 out of 12 got well initially, and one other got well when retreated (after a thyroid problem was corrected.) The two that did not get well were the two with lower titres.

It looks like I'll be starting Valcyte soon....Friday, hopefully.
Unfortunately, the symptoms for lyme and viral infections like HHV-6 are exactly the same, so it is hard to differentiate the two. I'm just learning about these viruses....

lymeinputnam - I have severe OCD, too. At my worst it was taking me 3-4 hours to fold one load on laundry (no joke) and 45 minutes to wash my hands (also no joke). That's one reason I haven't unpacked yet in this new place - when my symptoms are this bad, my OCD follows.
My EBV by the time I was tested was in the convalescent stage (I was getting better), but my fatigued continued, and it wouldn't be until fall of 2006 before I was finally diagnosed.
I think it would be worth it for you to be tested for malaria since you have OCD, too - mine was 'equivocal' and I just had it redrawn. I have never been outside of the US, so we'll see.
Also, you might want to look into how many cell phone towers and antennas are in your area. I tend to 'conduct' on humid or damp days, and after reading 'Cross Currents', I'm convinced these signals are dangerous and the cause of all these bugs sticking around and crossing the blood-brain barrier.

I also heard from my LLMD that Igenex scientists may be seeing a cross-reactivity on the Igenex Western Blot between EBV and one of the bands (I forget which one).

What are cross-reacting? I see the EBV, but what is it cross-reacting with?
