Just looking to hear from anyone whose had a SPECT scan to see if anyone has had results like mine and hopefully gotten better. Results were severe, global, cortical hypoperfusion with heterogeneity also involving white matter. I am under treatment with LLMD. I always remain positive but sometimes when I think of that report I get scared. It would be nice to hear other results to as to not feel so alone in this respect. Thanks!

many here have had SPECTS. you'll find lots of info if you just do a simple "search" here using just the word "SPECT."
or, "SPECT results," "meaning of SPECT," etc...

I have no idea what any of this means, but here are my results.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE CEREBRAL SPECT
Findings: The following abnormalities are identified:
1. Area of absent perfusion in the posterior aspect of the right parietal lobe.
2. Patchy left anterior and mid parietal areas of absent perfusion.
3. Bilateral perfusion defects in the insular cortex.
Impression: Cerebral abnormalities as discussed above. Although not specific to the diagnosis of neuroborreliosis, this pattern of perfusion abnormality is consistent with that diagnosis.
If anybody knows what areas of my brain died, please let me know. I know it is much harder for me to cry when I'm sad. And I used to ace math, but sometimes can't do simple problems now. I also can stutter now when I am upset. This never was a problem for me.
On the other hand, the analytical portion of my brain has been in overdrive, which is unusual for me.
By the way, it should be noted that I used to hold my cordless phone to the left side of my head, even though I'm a righty.

Hypoperfusion means reduced blood flow and therefore reduced oxygen. Common with chronic Lyme and improves with treatment. I don't know about the rest, though.

To keep it simple- my SPECT Scan was abnormal, consistent with Lyme, I've made good improvement on IV Rocephin. Whew!

Thanks for the input. I was already aware of what my results meant- aside from doc fully explaining I have done my own research. I just wanted feedback from others and their treatment success - hopefully.

I'm a 'moderate to severe hypoperfusion' lymie. I'm responding well to tx. I am working part time this summer. It's been a test of stamina and brain power, and I'm hanging in there. I know my 'brain power' isn't where it was pre-lyme, but it is improving slowly. cootiegirl
