Does anyone else get pain/pressure under your left rib cage? I have had this pain for almost 2 years off and on.

When I was in my search for a diganosis, ducks did a CAT scan, Ultra Sound and of course everything was normal, but that was well over a year ago since that testing.

I have seen LLMD's for over a year and keep forgetting to mention this intermittent pain.

I am worried it is my spleen, I know spleen enlargement can happen with viral issues (which I have as well).

Anyone else?

Thanks.

Yes I have this too. It's sharp pain under my leftrib cage and it lasts for like a week or two then goes away. Only to resurface a month or so down the road. ANyone else know what this is?? I know this sounds weird but sometimes the pain shoots up all the way to my neck.

Before I was diagnosed with lyme, they said it said "costrochondritis". However, after the usual many year search for diagnosis and treatment, my LLMD said it was due to inflammation caused by lyme. Since being agressively treated with oral abx, I have not had the problem return.

Assume the abx took care of it, but just a guess.

Best wishes.

Ann

Besides splean, some other possibilities include:

adrenal pain, but that's usually on both sides

soaz muscle pain - This is a long muscle that attaches in the groin, under the ribs, and in the middle of the back. It tends to act up when lymph in the groin is toxic and static, and can happen on just one side. Press on the muscles just inside your hip bones and see if they are tender. If so, some massage and lymph drainage therapy might help.

Are you taking lots of capsules?

I had pain at the bottom of my ribcage and went to the doctor, who told me the pain could have been caused by not drinking enough water when taking capsules, that this was actually a type of heartburn. I thought he was wrong because it didn't make sense but after that I drank more water and the pain went away.

I hope it's that and not your spleen!

I've had this for a couple months now. Went to the ER today and had everything checked out re bloodtest/urine/catscan. As usual, everything looked normal. Spleen problems would show up in catscan/ultrasound and bloodtest.

Looks to me, Bejoy, like you've got an interesting theory, since what you're describing would match the pain I've got. So, a psoas inflammation on one side?

I've had the under the left rib cage pain/swelling for years before i was diagnosed.
I know 2 other women with lyme who have it!
One of the women got rid of it with abx/babesia treatment (she caught her lyme early).

dr. b told my friend what it was -- splenic flecture-- it's happens with chronic infection in the intestine i think.

I asked my LLMD about that a few months ago. I don't get a pain, but it feels like something is swollen under my left rib cage. It is more tender to the touch than a pain. My Dr. said my spleen was not swollen, and that was a common lyme symptom. Not sure what causes it.

That pain is one of my most persistent Lyme symptoms. It's like a pressure or "fist" as I describe it. My ex-doc, Dr. B from L.I., said it was "Splenic Flexure Syndrome" - or gas trapped at the splenic flexure by scar tissue from a chronic infection. He thought anti-gas tabs might help, but they didn't.

So far, the only abx that's touched that pain has been Minocycline...

Well, for whatever it's worth, I tested the psoas theory today -- stretched extensively in the pool and later on out of the pool. And I must say I was able to take the pain down by doing so.

I have a bad left knee, the same side as this pain. So question here, for those of you with left side pain: do any of you have leg/walking problems on that side?

Also, is there any test that could show the splenic flexure problem?

Hi All

the pain you are describing is fairly common-

It is caused by the cartilage between the
rib cage gets Inflamed --

The pain can be from Sharp to Dull
and you can give you a feeling of
pressure inside --

The pain Varies alot --Starts- stops Lingers-
moves --stabbing

At some point in time Most folks think they
are having a heart attack and doctors
run tests that come back Fine --

Once I started Babs Treatment this
pain subsided - but it took many months for me-

For some reason it is usually worse on
the Left side rib cage -- No clue why -

I have had similiar for 20-30 years. Told lots of docs about it,,,all shrug it off. It is JUST left of center,,,directly under the ribs and even the bottom of the bottom rib is very sore to the touch.

Mine feels strange, real strange on the surface,,,like pins and needles and sometimes NUMB to the touch!!When you feel it with your fingers it feels like it is half dead!! Compared with normal skin anyway!!strange--just don--

Am still a bit puzzled by this -- sems like an extensive area in me, involving all muscles attaching between ribs and pelvic bone on the left side, with strongest pain under the rib area. Am trying constant stretching.

I have the same exact thing - I thought I was having a heart attack. Its weird how you have all of these random symptoms that come and go as they please and it takes one website to tie a years worth of symptoms all together.
