I have my 3rd appt with my LLMD this week. So i wanted to ask your opinion:
Is Doxy enough to get rid of Lyme?
Should I be taking another abx as well?
I've been on Doxy since late June. I've been taking 300mg a day for the past few weeks. It's hard to say if I've noticed any real improvement.
Should I ask my doc to introduce another abx into the mix, or maybe slow & steady wins the race?
Most of my symptoms are neuro-related (tingling, twitches, etc). This all started in May, but i must have been bit last summer.

It's an interesting question.
If you look at your symptoms as a guide, you should ask yourself two questions
1) Are you getting better? 2) Are you symptom-free?
Which ever med works is the one, or combination of ones that kill the colony and eliminate symptoms. Slow, steady improvement is good, but how long until you kill the colony? No good answer. You will also know that there is no standard answer to "which is best." You take meds (and suppliments) until you have no symptoms. Having said that, in my mind (it's a strange place sometimes) if I felt better, I'd wonder whether I killed the whole colony or just one strain of the several that I have infecting me. I, personally would want to try another ABX/cyst buster to see if I can herx. Herxing would only confirm that I still have bugs in me. If I switch ABX and I get nothing, then, more likely than not, there's nothing left.
I'd run that past your doc. Incidentally, longer term Doxy does pose a little more of a risk to your kidneys, so switching ABX may be worth it for that reason.
Let us know what happens.

It may not though. It almost cured me in the beginning because I was caught right away but they only gave me a month- but then it did nothing and I needed IV to get better-
If you are early sometimes it is all you need!!!
It is the usual first line TBD drug because it has so much action against so many diseases-

....same here....I got tetracycline for a month initially and it helped...then I relapsed and tried it again(and doxy) and it did nothing at all.
tetracyclines are supposed to have some effect on babs parasites in the liver also.
I'd say if you don't catch it early and treat a long time you need bigger guns.

It's possible if you catch it early enough & don't have any co-infections.
But if you have co-infections you will need more than doxy. My lyme was so not caught early enough & I have co-infections as well & needed to be on many different meds...babs for example doesn't respond to just doxy ...neither does bart.
Everyone's so different here & not all have the same strain of lyme or the same amount of co-infections.
Hope you have a LLMD & get the proper treatment up front so you can beat this horrible disease

i dont think doxy is ENOUGH to get rid of lyme, but i think everyone is different
i have been thru a lot of iv abx as well as treatments for babs, and now, i am going to try iv doxy
kind of backwards, but it all depends on the person
def get co's checked out though, and remember u might want to find a doc who will give u trial meds for them since the tests are junk

I think if you started doxy immediately after the tick bite, it could be enough.
But if it's had time to settle in, then I don't think it's enough because it only goes after one form the borrelia takes.
Plus there's the coinfection issue.
It's a good start, and if you're making progress, that's good. But if you stop making progress, I'd ask for some Omnicef (or Amoxy or Bicillin) to go with it (I also take Probenecid to keep these drugs at high levels in my blood stream). Also some Plaquenil as a cyst buster.

Hey,
I was on doxy for 6 weeks and saw no improvments. I know alot a Bb is resistant to doxycycline now. I know it does work in some people though.

Well I have similar symptoms to you (tingling, burning, twitching) and after 3 months of doxy and azythromicyn they are still here. Doxy took care of my headaches, eye pains and stiff neck/shoulders though. My LLMD told me that Lyme is to be treated with 2 antibiotics always. So, in my opinion the answer is no.
