My PCP gave me three weeks of Doxy to take. I am suppose to call her after the first week to let her know how I feel. She also gave me Ultram which helped me with my pain in 2001. She didn't say whether she thinks this is a reinfection or a new infection of lyme.

I have an appointment to see my LLMD on Wed 8/15.

Should I go ahead and start taking the doxy or just wait till next week when I see my LLMD?

I know noone can give me actual medical advice. I just wanted some opinions on what other lyme patients might do in this instance.

Thanks, TARA

I've always preferred taking the medication before seeing the LLMD, when possible, just in case it produces a significant result that clarifies treatment options.

I started taking artemisinin before seeing my LLMD the first time; my reaction to it was so strong that it helped him dx my babesia -- I felt like it saved me a couple of months in figuring out a treatment plan.

With my treatment back in 2001, I never really had any herx or bad reactions to the meds I was prescribed.

I started the Doxy yesterday and am feeling crappier than usual. How quickly do most people start feeling reactions or possible herx reactions to the abx? Can it be within the first two doses? Or I guess it could be I had a harder time than usual falling asleep last night so I'm super tired. Took me 2 hours instead of the 1 hour it normally takes me to fall into deep sleep.

Dizzy, I herx within hours and so do some others- like with everything- there is a real range- some people it takes a while- some are real responsive- if it is nausea you felt that could be just a side effect and take it with food if you got that- Doxy can make you real nauseous-
I was on it 2 years- remember to wear gloves while driving- the sun from driving accumulates and many people get "what is this weird red rash on my hands?"- Doxy is great for Lyme though- I am glad you are reactive to it- means you will get gains from it-!!!!!!!!!!!!

Normally Doxcy does make me nauseous so I always take it with food.

I am just more achy right now and my headache is a bit stronger. My hands and feet were really swollen this morning when I first woke up.

I just took my third dose so we shall see. I haven't taken my pain med yet today so if it gets any worst I will take it.

Thanks for the input. Tara

The time a herx start varies for me. When I took Flagyl, within a few hours I had such severe pain I was up all night.

I took Cipro a couple weeks ago for a bladder infection. About 30 hours after the first dose I started having increased pain, it was really severe about 72 hours after the first dose.

tara, i herxed immediately w/doxy!

protect your skin well from sun w/doxy; you'll burn to a crisp otherwise.

if you have my newbie package, look about the NORIR, no infrared wraparound sunglasses! i'm never without mine! they are my lifesavers to my extremely sensitive eyes! [Wink]
