Just back from ER. Intense head pressure, chest pressure, difficulty breathing. Chest pain. BP spiked up.
I got "it's not related to Lyme". We don't know what it is, but it isn't your heart (good news, I know). Go home.
So sick and tired of being sick and tired and being told there isn't anything wrong.
LLMD switched ABX on 7-26-07 to Cephalexin 500 mg twice a day + Malarone + Azithroycin 500 mg a day.
Is this a herx from experience of others out there? Please put your two cents in here folks. I'm at the point of stopping ABX completely. I just can't keep this up. Any suggestions?

I would call your doctor. Perhaps lowering the doses of the antibiotics would reduce your symptoms. This is not medical advice. Call your doctor and ask. Hiker

Oh boy Motownlyme, I just went through almost the same thing 3 weeks ago. Wound up in the ER thinking I had a stroke- all your symptoms except chest pain (just pressure) plus sudden R side weakness, lack of feeling, dizzyness and vertigo. They sent me home with Antivert.... Anyway, mine is bartonella/babesia/lyme or one of those. I wasn't on anything at the time, but my LLMD has put me on Levaquin and Arteminisin. I am herxing, but at least I can drive again!
My 2 cents is that you are herxing from the meds. Obviously talk to your doctor, you may have to lower doses, but if it IS a herx you may feel better shortly. I posted earlier today that I have started taking NanoTek Chitosan from Nutricology. It seems to be helping with the herx, you might want to give in a whirl. Hang in there! Yeah- I thought I was done for a while back- Daughter took me to ER with all those symptoms-ER doc consulted with LLMD who told him it was ALL related to Lyme.(especially since tests for possible stroke or heart attack were negative.)
ER doc wanted to keep me for further tests-but I've heard these tales enough to know it probably was Lyme/med related. I survived to herx another day.
Take Care, Carol

WOW 1,000mg a day of ceftin + large dose of Zithromax + malarone!!!
That would put me in the hospital for sure! I have been treating for 7-8 months now and can onl handle 250mg a zithromax and rifampin for a few days before it knocks me on my back and then I start the process over again! I say it is a herx.

Motown, so sorry to read of your ER visit tonight! best wshes.
best safe than sorry always! Posted by savebabe (Member # 9847) on :
WOW!!!
A ceftin herx alone is enought to make you feel like death.
Now your llmd has you hitting all three TBD's, so it is very possible this is a terrible herx.
I agree with others that you should consult you llmd and consider pulsing your meds, until you have enough die off to up your dosage.
Also, remeber to detox.
Feel better

I agree that you are on heavy doses of meds and likely herxing. Since I'm not a dr, I don't know for sure. Did you call your LLMD??
Some LLMD's advocate backing off the meds when having a strong herx. Find out what your dr's plan is, so that you can stay out of the ER! Ducks are no fun to deal with!

You know what it is the lyme in my experience. Maybe its just WV ticks that cause this, but it happens to me alot.
I get asked why are you breathing so hard. My chest hurt and I just have difficulty breathing and a rapid pulse rate and yes my blood pressure goes up too.
I cant peg it down to what triggers it but I think its when I am just feeling so exhausted that I cant walk accross the room.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Just to clarify. I'm on 1000 mg a day of Cephalexin (generic for Keflex) + Malarone + 500 Mg/day of Azithromycin (generic Zith)+ more supplements than I can shake a tick at.
Is it possible to just keep herxing? I have these "surges" all the time, usually not this extreme though.
My LLMD is the one who told me to go to the ER last night. I couldn't get through on the phone so I faxed him the results of the ER visit and asked if I should lower the meds, pulse, etc.
Please keep all your answers and responses coming. Any info I have so I can talk to the LLMD helps. He seems nice but very set in his ways and seems to get upset with you if you ask questions.
