There is a story on polish discussion group that a person female pharmacologist had Lyme Disease 13 years ago. She was in a second stage, no Erythema Migrains. She tried to cure herself for almost a year with different antibiotics and nothing helped. She had finally met a doctor who said her to stop all antibiotics and do for 30 days drip-feed rocephin. Every symptoms went away like a miracle, test are negative.

So my question is did anybody try drip-feed rocephin ? I had only fast injections in hospital.

I don't know what is the difference though.

I keep reading this post title and thinking it says "deep fried Rocephin." Seriously, my mind must really be melting from the heat.

I did IV Rocephin back in 2001.

I did Ammox 4500/day for a few months with probenecid, then did 3 weeks of IV Rocephin through a picc line/IV drip (1 bag every morning)can't remember the strength, and then did Suprax for a few months. The IV Rocephin immediately helped my neurological symptoms. The joint pains and other problems didn't fade until a few months after I finished the oral antibiotics. This was in 2001 and I am just now having a relapse.

So it worked well for me for at least a while.

Dizzyygirll, did You have a drip or injection ?
drip is the main thing of this thread.

So are you saying it was a constant non-stop 24 hour drip versus an IV that would take an hour or so?

Well in a hospital in Poland it took nurse 15 seconds to do rocephin injection.

I am pretty sure "drip-feed" means Intervenous treatment (IV as it is known here). I had IV Rocephin for two weeks at 1 gram, 2 times a day.

After not improving and seeing another doctor, I got 2 grams 2 times a day. That lasted for 10 days, at which time I broke out in hives. So we stopped it and I had Doxycycline IV for a couple of months.

We had thought the hives were evidence of allergy to Rocephin, however tests later showed I was not allergic to it. The hives were a Herxheimer reaction. I could have stopped the Rocephin and eased back on it, perhaps, and might have had better results.

I do believe it helped the neurologic symptoms and am quite sure it is what wiped out the leisons on my brain.

I'm not sure if this is exactly the info you're trying to find, but in my case I infused Rocephin over about 45 minutes.

Had a picc line with pole, hung the bag of Rocephin, and set the drip fairly slow.

It was not a 15 second injection (Wow - 15 seconds! Really?), I didn't realize it could be done that quickly.

I had 3 months of IV, then switched back to orals.

It was not a miracle for me, unfortunately, but I'm glad it worked for her. Wonder if her doses were significantly different?

Yes, I used an IV bag that I hooked up every morning to my picc line and it took about 45 mins for it to finish depending on how fast I had the drip going. That is what I said in my original post, you must not have seen that.

It was not an injection. I had a permanent IV line hooked up for the entire 3 weeks. HAd to be switched to my other arm at one point. Never heard of an injection.

It did help my neurological problems pretty quickly.

The "fast" rocphine , here is call IV Push or maybe IM rochephine.

IV push is a method that is used in some places to save money. Some claim it is just as effective as IV drip. In theory it should be.

The IM injection is another option. Since it goes into the nuscle, it gets into the blood stream instantly so it shoudl be the same as IV push.

The Problem with IV push is that it might be had to take for some people.

Now as to efficacy.... I will bet that the lady you are taling about had uncomplicated, ie no co-infection. I also know someone who was "cured" with a few weeks of IV rochephine. She was in a very bad state prior to treatment~ late stage lyme (as bad as I was... which was very bad) but has not had a relapse now for several years.

The bottom line is that rocephine does work ... sometimes. Recovery takes quite a few months and some people still complain during the recovery period, a situation that feeds the wormser expalanation of "post lyme syndrome".

Others relapse and start to decline again, an effect which is not acknowledged as possible by wormser!

I have been on IV rocephin (drip - where you hang the bag and infuse over a period of time usually 30 to 45 minutes for me) for 15 weeks now. 2 grams once per day. I am also on Zith and Flagyl.

I have had improvements, but it has been slow and in a back and forth manner. My brain is working much better now - I can actually read a novel and keep up with it and remember what I just read. I still have periods of time at work where I just can't function, then all of a sudden, I have a brain again and can get things done.

After the initial first 3-4 weeks of bad herxing, I started to have about 2 -4 hours per week at work where my brain was very clear. But it would not last. Now it is lasting longer - I can actually have a whole day of a working brain.

My heart "flutters" are almost gone, joint pain is better. Overall pain (that kind that is like you got hit with a truck) is much better, and the buzzing in my body is much less. Headaches are better, still get dizzy and get OI (not bad, though), still herxing, but not as bad. Still Cycling.

My main gripe is that the fatigue is not much better, but mornings are easier now - which for me, means my adrenals and thyroid are doing a bit better. Oh, and I have one really swollen lymph in my neck and it has gone down some.

Anyway - I think treatment success varies from person to person. I'm not sure that one can say drip is better than injection and surely 30 days on IV Rocephin for me was clearly NOT enough.
