George Bush may be suffering from a serious neurological infection. Today's NYTimes ran an article by Lawrence Altman describing Bush's health status. According to Dr Michael Stewart of NY Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital, he has had Lyme Disease, with the famous bullseye rash, and has been adequately treated. It goes on to mention other medical conditions he has experienced after that in the last year. They included vestibular neuronitis, vertigo , flu like symptoms, and sinus and ear infections. Vestibular neuronitis disorder has been associated with influenza or a flu-like illness, headaches, and Lyme disease, Likewise vertigo and flu like symptoms are also linked to Lyme, and frequent infections such as the sinus and ear infections are common to chronic Lyme patients who have upregulated immune systems. You may know that there is an ongoing debate in the Medical Community about continuing infection after standard antibiotic treatment for Lyme. Many of us Lyme patients have undergone this sort of thing after standard treatement. We fear that Mr. Bush may be dealing with a serious neurological condition that has grave consequences for his decision making capacity.

And now it starts. Look for an all out war and patients will be caught in the middle.
Politics will argue back and forth if chronic lyme exists or not.
New Political lines will now cut across the IDSA & ILADS treatment guidelines further fractioning the Lyme community.
I think this will hurt all of us.

Here's an interesting statement from that NY Times article.
"The doctors attributed the unsteadiness to mild vestibular neuronitis in the president's left ear. ...
"Untreated Lyme disease can lead to nerve damage, often involving the eighth cranial nerve, the same one affected by vestibular neuronitis. But Mr. Bush's doctors said they did not believe the Lyme infection was linked to his vestibular neuronitis because the skin lesion had not recurred."
You got it Idfighter...that is so unbelievably stupid, but so typical.. And Kayda, if Bush has Lyme, he may not be fit to govern, so we would get Cheney, and both the left and right would be pleased...sort of. What a world!

Thanks for posting the sample letter Greatcod. Really good idea, especially since some of the posters on those blogs (esp. Huffington Post) seem clueless about Lyme.
BOY THAT"S DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because the lesion had not reoccurred!!! BOY OH BOY!

I guess this just supports that Lyme disease is not yet
Considered Politically Correct no matter who you are.
How about those of us who never had a rash???!!

Well said, Kayda. Looks like this is already being politicized....for all the wrong reasons.
Insults flying on the kos webpage are ridiculous.
And Lymies will continue to suffer. Tis sad.

I think this fight is unavoidable. We just have to do the best possible job on our side. Yes, it might have repercussions for us. But nothing can stop this ship from sailing.
We could just wait until something drastic happens, something more than vertigo. Of course, that might not come until he is out of office.
And I would not put it past them to start treating him again secretly, like they did last time. Although you would think they might have been more careful in round one to really hit this on the head before it went chronic. Got to say it makes me think that stupid is the problem, not devious.

Lou - I think it is entirely possible they could treat W for late stage lyme without letting the public know for obvious reasons. I think it looks like he has it in his CNS for sure and could explain his stuttering speech etc.
I also think that doc that said "no need to treat anymore because no more rash" is either the stupidest doc alive, or is not telling us everything, relying on the public's ignorance.
