I have been treated for Lyme since last Sept. I had 4 months of IV rocephin , done the bartonella treatments with levaquin and avelox(which is the beginning of the floor feeling like it is moving), and have been on many months of babesia treatment. I had been doing well with oral meds until recently.

The LLMD put me back on omnicef and zithro/mepron or malerone. I dont know if this sent me into a flair, but the vertigo is getting worse and the burning stiff pain at the base of my skull/neck is bad! The babesia meds make me so dizzy! I needed to stop again. The artemesinin kicks my butt! I see the Dr on Friday and i dont know if the meds are not working or sending me into a flair? Does this sound like any particular coinfection? A herx.....or time to go back to IV's? The floor moves up and down daily for months. It is worse inside or in a moldy environment! I started the questran/ actos protocol today. HELP! -Nikki

Nikki....I was going to give you a call but wasn't sure if it's a good time for you.

I'll PM you.

Hi Nikki,

yes, just sent you a PM. Malarone made me feel dizzy and pretty awful, for the first two months on it. Then, it got much easier!

I had an extremely stiff neck the first month on it. Couldn't move my head in one direction. That passed slowly too, and was gone by about week 4-5.

Best wishes.

Sorry you're hurting so bad Nikki ! I have the neck and headache pain also but I don't get the dizzyness nearly as bad as I use to. I stopped with the zetia and that helped alot with that , not that you're taking zetia but some times other meds can make that worse .

I have seen a big improvement in the vertigo since I have started bactrim as I think it has helped to clear up my sinuses .

Artimisinin is nasty for me ! I have had better luck tolerating it by taking it at nite just before sleep . The only trouble with that is trying to guess whe I will actually fall asleep !

I'm sure lymetoo will give you some good advice but maybe some of this will help also . Take care , Buckfever [Wink] [group hug]

I hope that it is not a neuro toxic reaction to the artemisinin...a neuro toxic reaction would give you very bad vertigo...and problems with the eyes and balance..hope all is well...

Babesia treatment (mepron and zith) made me so dizzy I could barely function. I opted to go off of it before I had really completed a full course the first time. (I might have been on it for 2 months?)

Since then, though, my predominant lyme symptoms of dizziness / vertigo/ imbalance are almost a non-issue.

I am back on the babs treatment now - 2 years later - and am only getting a llittle bit dizzy. I am looking forward to seeing what this round brings afterwards.

So, my feeling is that it is a herx (or it was for me) and that, for me, it was the first cobo of meds that reallly conquered my dizziness symptoms. I have been sick for 12 years and the dizziness never got so resolved as from these meds.

Good luck to you - I hope and think it is a herx.

But, the mold sensitivity says that it could be partly yeast?

Nikki,
I am just finishing up a course of Levaquin and Arteminisin because I HAD vertigo- now it's gone. [bonk] I think maybe the meds are activating your problem but not causing them. I will tell you I ordered a bottle of NanoTek Chitosan from Nutricology (it's new and only available directly from them) and it's saving my life. It's really, really helping the herxing. I've tried regular chitosan and cholestyrimine in the past with no luck, but this stuff is wonderful I forget to take it last Sunday and thought I was going to die Monday. NO, don't have any financial interest in the company, just sharing what's worked for me. [Big Grin] Good luck!
